Just wanted to know how to find out if your new site has been indexed. I have checked awstat on my cpanel and it shows Google robots visited as well as 2 other unknowns. Does that mean that it has been indexed?

If not, how do I find out?

Thanks
Kelvin

Hi Kevin, a very easy way to see all pages on your site that are currently indexed, for example in Google, you do "site colon URL" - it looks like this:

      site:http://www.yoursite.com

Also do the same like this:

      site:www.yoursite.com

Also: If don't already have a Google Webmaster account, I recommend it - you can verify that Google "sees" your site by adding simple code to your <head> tags or by saving an HTML file with a name that Google Webmaster gives you to name and upload.

Also, uploading and XML sitemap to Google Webmaster is a good idea too, you can easily find sites that do that for free with a quick Google search on free xml sitemap.

      Hope that helps!

There are also plenty of tools that include this feature. Just do some searching on Google and you will find all your answers.

Thank you David, Timbor and Andy.

I tried using site:http://mysite.com and site:www.mysite.com on Firefox and it doesn't work. I guess it is just an IE command. Will try it there.

      Thanks again

You should be entering that in Google. Doesn't matter what browser you're using. If your site is in the results its indexed. If its not - no index for you

        simple as that...

Thanks Mike. I got it. Not indexed. I also found out that several more of my sites are not indexed even though they have been up for months, sitemaps done and installed. What do you think the problem might be?

One site has been up for about a year and everything looks good on google webmaster tools

IMO google webmaster tools is the problem. I've had sites take weeks to get indexed when properly setup through G web tools. I don't use it for any of my sites now and get them indexed within a week.

I know alot of people suggest G web tools, but that's been my experience. I know its ironic but others have had similar results.

Get couple of links from already indexed website. This way google finds your site pretty easy.

Ex: Link in your signature on this forum.

There is a setting in Google webmaster tools where you decide whether or not google should treat your "www.domain.com" and "domain.com" as two separate websites or the same website. Also - make sure that your hosting company is treating them as one website - for mine, if my main domain has a subdirectory "www" on the server, then that is treated as a subdomain. If not, then it forwards to the main domain.

Will they show all of your domain linked pages also or do you have to type each one separately. i.e. page 2 etc.

Instead of starting a new thread I'll ask here:

    I do the site:http://mydomain.com

and I get all of my pages that are indexed

    however when I search, site:mydomain.com

    I get no results.

Also, when viewing my page, it only says http://mydomain.com

Is there some way to change if the www shows up,

    -does this matter?

    Thanks

I asked a similar question on last night and had a load of replies. However........yes, yes, yes.....one week and my site is No5 on page one of google.

The strange thing is, if I go and check on my google webmaster account, it says none of my pages are indexed. Whether they are or not, my site shows on page one and what a confidence booster that is for someone like me who has zero experience.

    Thanks to all
