This is 1st Day of The Rest of My Life!

27 replies
I turned 30 yesterday and it hit me.

I have been looking at the internet marketing space for about 10 months. I have been in the Christian Marketing arena for a while (appx 10 years), consulting churches and independent ministries on how to grow their base and increase giving (donations) or sales through online and offline marketing strategies. I would consult, design, develop and launch all material (website / banners / etc). So I have the knowledge top to bottom from a new church to a fully functioning church with several para ministries. I am a senior level IT guy 9a-5p by trade and have been in that arena since 1999.

About 8 months ago, I came across the Internet Marketing Mogul podcast and they opened my eyes to so many things that just made sense. I have a niche, experts, and knowledge...and I am still in this rat race.

I made the pivitil mistake of "thinking positive" and NOT "taking action". This mistake set me back about 6 months. As I see soooo many like minded individuals here and I am not only intrigued but INSPIRED as I see so many win with determination and drive to simply just succeed. Thank you WarriorForumites!

This day, 3/20/12 my story begins.....

    NIce one - good luck.

    For me also the day i turned 30 was the start of a very long journey that brought me to where i am today. Quite a low point in my life , with hindsight though really kicked of the adventure. And next Friday is the another milestone as it will be my last day in 9 to 5 employment as i take IM full time.

    Congratulations to you and all the best.

    not sure if I remembered that correctly!

    'Christian Marketing' Now there's a thought, I'm not a churchgoer but I don't think we do that in the UK, although I have noticed very clever adverts on Parish noticeboards, perhaps the C of E should crank it up a notch.

    Good luck in your endeavours.

      Yes it is very liberating. I mean building the websites, designing and sending printed materials off just became to tedious. I would rather prepare a step by step directive with optional coaching and additional services instead of going head first trying to do it all.

    Very impressive story, God Bless on your adventure.

    At the age of 30 you are still in a fresh start and I know your potential will take you to the road where you are longing before. Expect for failures as well as success but do not forget to keep your foot back in the ground.

    You've got what it takes!

        do not worry, it is best to get failure out of the road first. That is what I did, and almost gave up, but you will see that you learn lots, and then work out a plan. Without a plan you can really stuff things up. :p

        Nice. Just remember failure is a teacher and not a permanent condition.

        It will take a positive outlook, the right action (that's key) and persistence. It seems you're on the right track!

        I say Welcome!

    Like Nike says "Just Do It!" Its always better to hear your story after the results. There have been too many people that have cried wolf. Results prove you took massive action and stuck with it until successful.

    I think there's something about turning 30 that puts the 'hunger' in one. I was making money online through my writing services before I turned 30, but when I hit the big three oh, I decided I was not going to spend so much time writing for someone else. I still write, but for myself.

    So, welcome to the rest of your life

    I had the itch for business back when I was 18 and for the last 11 years I been striving to build a business I learned the ins and outs but realized for a 1 man operation that's not ideal. Mind you I can still hit up an IT client for $85/hour for computer services but once its over its over. Plus its not my passion. I was blessed enough to been in on Christian book publishing and a few emerging sub-niches such as biblical counseling... so i have some great content... just got to put it together... in the right fashion.

    Update
    -------
    Currently creating a script the video squeeze page. Also looking into creating a quality squeeze page copy.

    Splitting up my free product (info product) up into 4-6 watered down sections. Each will have the ability to spin off into its own product.

    Dropped all outside endeavors to focus on IM. (Hard thing to do)

    Trying to figure out what will be my process as far as AWeber auto-responders go

    Anyone got a squeeze page with a descent conversion rate I can take a look at??

      What question do you have regarding aweber?

      As far as the squeeze is concerned, it varies greatly niche to niche. Don't complicate it. Headline, benefits, optin form. Those are your essentials. I saw something about doing a video for it? If you do, don't make it too long.

        Hello Tre,

        I really hope you are wrong about "This is 1st Day of The Rest of My Life!" and can accept the fact that This is 1st Day of The BEST of Your Life!

        You said "....so a few have given me access to their list of customers just need to figure out what route to go with sending the initial invite letter."

        First, I'd be careful with this one. If they are not opt-ins to your list you may find yourself being known as a spammer. Nope, You DON'T want this.

        Second, You have diamonds in your own backyard....

        The christian niche can be a nice little diamond mine if you treat it right.

        This is just a suggestion and you are welcome to use it or not.

        If it were me...

        I'd write a list of ideas on what the christian community is looking for;

        * Information about Christ
        * Homeschooling
        * How to live a Christian Life - Even In todays society
        * Raising Christain Children
        * Why others don't understand Christians
        * Christian Humor (always a good one)
        * List of Christian Churches around the country

        And so on...

        Then, depending on your own knowledge and writing skills I'd;

        1) Begin Outsourcing several projects (i.e. books, videos, audios or software)
        2) Create my own (outsourcing is mucho easier)
        3) Both

        While all this is being done I'd begin my list campaign;

        1) Writing ads for free items (i.e. Free Books, Courses etc.)
        2) Creating the products to give away
        3) Create landing pages, sales pages, thankyou pages etc. etc. etc.
        4) Write a few articles that would be sent out to your list on How-to....

        You're in a great postition to get on the fast track with this since you have clients - USE THEM!

        I'd then, write a letter or just ask the clients;

        "I'm putting together _InsertBusinessHere_ and was wondering if you would be willing to help me get started?" (Or something like that).

        Then ask them to place your ad in their newsletter (or however they promote to their list).

        As your list grows and your products become available just promote them to your list.

        Now, I don't know if you're a Christian or a marketer (lol.... that may not have come out the way I meant it to) but, and this is just my opinion, Jesus is one of the Masters Of Marketing. He's got followers from all over the globe and his list is HUGE. Just follow in his footsteps. There's a reason why all those Christian Bookstores do so well (and in some of the damdest places too).

        Well, Good Luck Tre. I hope to see your success story here soon.

          Well my clients all use a shoping cart that allows me to send a mass e-mail to their list so it is branded with the clients info and will probably be along the lines of... Hello this is -the owner of the site which they are already familiar with- , Tre from our marketing and advertising divsion/ministry is launching an new site. - I have helped all my clients look GREAT and they are eager to lend a hand. There are SOOOO many direction to go in. I am linked into the local College of Biblical studies so EVERYONE either writes a book, position paper or pamplet. So content is down. My first venture is Christian Marketing at this point church KNOW there is a digital divide which causes stagnant growth and giving.

    Its a good market when face to face. hopefully my current clients can spring board me into IM, I designed thier website and online bookstore so a few have given me access to their list of customers just need to figure out what route to go with sending the initial invite letter. I cant do it via AWeber without getting them to opt in.

    So I am searching the forums to find out what options are available.
