CPanel Traffic vs Google Analytics

Hi

Relatively new to internet marketing and site only launched last week, but can anyone explain why the traffic numbers I'm getting out of Hostgator C Panel and Google Analytics are so dramatically different?

GA showing a bit over half of what Hostgator reporting.

Thanks

There was an almost identical thread here about a week ago, use the search if you want to see what other people were saying.

But in a nutshell....Cpanel stats (Awstats / Webalizer) are unfiltered. They catch all of the bot and script activity on your server and report it as traffic. GA shows people. I always use 50% as an estimate too.

For lots of reasons. For example, Google sends out 'bots (spiders, robots) to crawl and index your pages. Others use 'bots to look for vulnerabilities in your site which can be exploited by hackers. Other 'bot types include those looking for forms into which automated posts can be submitted.

Those are just a few and they all seem to trigger a count in server stats.

Just go with the data from Google Analytics. For most purposes it's showing you what you need.

The data from cPanel, however, can help you identify unusual traffic that's heavy on your server but not bringing visitors.

GA isn't the most accurate. You can find more information on it in this article.

    Not my website.
