Turn on that camera in front of an audience and force yourself to overcome your fears.

Go to justin.tv or any such similar site and get on cam. Talk to people while sitting there and within minutes you won't feel any nervousness.

Of course there are a lot of slideshow and hands only demo videos made where a face is not shown. You might look into tips for public speaking, which is a similar issue, the classic advice there, imagine your audience is naked.

I guess that partly depends on whether you are doing it for a Youtube post or are broadcasting live. In Youtube, you can edit beforehand. Otherwise, you will need to spend a bit of time preparing yourself beforehand. Either way you will just need to bite the bullet and give it a try.

Take your time, remember you don't have to get it right first time because you can always edit out mistakes.

Smile to the camera and imagine you're talking to a really good friend.

Keep practising, it does make perfect - or at least good enough.

Prepare some script or dialogues and go to front of a mirror then start working on that script. ACT in front of mirror to overcome your shyness.

Just to add... If you're prepared and practiced enough and you've mastered everything that you need to say - that shyness will go away

What worries you is the imaginary audience. Because you are looking at a camera, you can't see smiling people nodding their heads because they like what you are saying.

This causes you to imagine an audience doing what you imagine they would be doing. And because you are insecure, you imagine them as disapproving or uninterested.

    Enter the bobblehead:

It might seem silly, but if you get one or more of these and put them next to your camera, a quick poke in the chin is enough to set them nodding with a big stupid grin on their face like you're the most interesting and engaging speaker on the planet.

Now you have an actual audience. And they like you! They really like you! Why, you're just plain awesome. Look at how happy they are, and how vigourously they agree with you!

So your brain doesn't need to imagine an audience. And even if it does imagine one, you have just nudged it into thinking your audience will probably be grinning and nodding like a bunch of chimps at a banana-tasting party.

And yes, I know, a lot of you are saying "who are you to talk about this, you do video all the time."

    Yep. I sure do.

I've aced a few speech classes in my day (graduate level) and I can tell you speech is all about confidence.

Also, know what you're going to say.

(Even before I make a phonecall, I always ask myself "what do I intend on saying")

The two most important aspects of giving a speech are confidence and knowing what to deliver. Once you get the hang of it, you'll grow in confidence and ability to forecast what to say.

PS: Even as an introvert it's possible to excel and dominate in speech. Trust me when I say confidence is the most important aspect!

I'd agree with that, as an introvert it's still possible to do well with video.. If the content is up to scratch.

Start off with powerpoint videos until you get to where you feel more comfortable speaking into a microphone. You could run the camera as you go over the powerpoint and in your final video it can be going back and forth from your computer screen to you. Use the clips that you like from the camera, everything else will only be video of the powerpoint on your screen.
