Starting Over... With Short Reports! Good or Bad Decision?

Just want anyone's experience with selling shorts reports, success and problems? Please share anything!

I have been trying with IM for a while now and have had many problems and short reports is something I am yet to try.

I aim to create a Free Report to build a list, then attempt to sell regular $7 reports to them assuming I can create them at a high enough quality.

I will obviously over deliver with the free report.

So... Any advice?

You are on the right track with the free reports. And if you build a good list you can create a money making list. If you treat them right. The money is in the list, but the big money is in the relationship with the list.

You can make a lot of money by doing what you are looking at doing, but if you want to create a business, then you need to have the whole package. Take some time and access the free marketing training videos that I link to in my sig.

If you learn how to market, you can sell any product, in any niche that you want. That I can say is a fact, with the system that I am with. If you do the work, you will create your own success.

Thanks a lot Ken. I've given so much a go with all my effort. So hoping this is the one to pay off. I've got a few ideal niches written down etc.

Definitely a good idea. A lot of people absorb information better by getting it in segments. Writing a report allows you to be specific, and if you do it right you will get your readers hungry for more.

Remember to offer plenty of free information too, unless however you want to build a list only consisting of buyers.

It's a good way to start over as a seller in my opinion. I wouldn't pigeonhole yourself and say "I'm only going to sell my list $7 short reports" though. In certain niches, it will work. In others, your customers will be looking for something more extensive. Be flexible; and make sure that you will be able to adapt should your customer needs change.

They're the easiest to make money off of as long as you offer outstanding content which is practically useful. If you haven't tried it then it's about time you did.

You have it right on the money. You need your own products and it's easier than you think to provide value.

Just ask yourself, how can I provide value in this niche fill in the blank
Think to yourself I provide value to people in my products and you will
We all want to help people this is why we become internet marketers I hope
If you help people in turn you will benefit financially from it

    Here's how to provide value

Find the problem and answer in your book

you can hire an expert online or offline

You can go to a local expert in your home town, there are tons of them right under you nose

You know somebody that knows something you can interview them about and sale online. I guarantee it

You can go to forums to have the book written

You can go to yahoo answers or forums to find out what people's problems are

and just answer them in your ebook

You want to just give one good solution to one problem

The money is in your own product and the list... But you can still sale without a list

Your strategy is sound. You should first concentrate on building a list with these cheap reports, and maybe get affiliates promoting these for you. This is the top strategy of many of the big earning wso vendors.

Is this a secret? I wouldn't think so. Just that most of us fail to observe.

So move on with this plan but make sure you incorporate a 100% affiliate commission programme to it.

This isn't a bad idea. I would increase the price from $7 tho. 30 sales would earn you $210... not worth it for the amount of effort that you put in marketing a website.

One thing to consider if you want a list that will buy multiple products...

Don't make your niche or market too specific. It's kind of the opposite of the approach many affiliate marketers take, looking for that exact keyword and calling it a niche.

On the other hand, don't get too broad, either.

In fact, don't pick a niche at all. Pick a group of people to serve, big enough and with broad enough interest that you can create multiple short reports that will appeal to them.

For example, "golf" would be way too broad. "Learning to read bentgrass greens near a water hazard near sunset" would be tough to do more than one report on, and the potential audience way too small.

Randall, selling 30 $7 reports might not be worth it to you, but how about selling 30 $7 reports to each of the members of your list? That would make each list member worth $210 lifetime. That's why they say that the money is in the relationship with the list.

For another example in another product category, look at John Locke and his 99 cent novels. He only makes 35 cents per sale, but many of his buyers buy all of his books - and eagerly await the next one. A simple email jumpstarts his climb up the charts.

    Thanks John.

I've found a 'niche' that I won't to target. And what I've done is written down a list of 10 reports I want to create, in a particular order that I think will work. The first two are going to free and I'm going to offer video versions of each as well and will decide whether to give these for free alongside the report or separate etc.

I've also, at the end of the 10 short reports, got a way to POTENTIALLY get the buyers to purchase a higher ticket priced item which I've come up with. So fingers crossed.

I think the hardest bit will be to get that initial list built up and getting the free guide out there.

What are the best ways of promoting a free product and building up a list? I know people will say forums, but the problem is that you have to build up authority on forums (in my opinion) in order to get noticed and get people visiting.

Is it worth posting on Craigslist/kijiji and other classifieds?

    Thanks all.
