How Many Sales Is Worth A "Bump"?

I'm just curious what the experience of others has been with this.

When you are running a WSO, how many sales do you have the first time around before you decide if you want to bump the thread? Is there a certain sales threshold you like to cross to determine if it is worthwhile?

If it makes $40 or more then the bump is worthwhile to me.

I agree with Mick's line of thinking. Once you hit a profit, why not go for it?

I agree with the others. Just be conscientious of how you did previously. If you barely made the bump price consider if you need to do additional marketing to get sales.

As with any form of advertising, if you make a profit, you keep on advertising... and why wouldn't you? Even if you are only breaking even or even losing a few dollars you need to remember the lifetime value of those buyers you are getting will be worth a lot more to you than a few lost dollars.

Depends on the price of the product.

If I'm selling something for $97 and get 1 sale every 2 bumps, that's worth it to me... Even if on the first bump it'd show no sales...

However, if it was a $7 product in same scenario, it'd be stupid to keep bumping

Even if it breaks even I'm happy as it just means more people on my list for free effectively.

Of course, provided you are breaking even you should continually bump. This gives you extra exposure to affiliates especially if you should have a 100% affiliate commission.

For me it is not as simple as "if its making more than $40 then bump it"

Time is also a huge factor and in fact, it is the most important commodity so you should also factor in the time that you are spending in answering queries and processing orders.

I agree with this - balance the profit against the time. If you are offering a service, or for example membership that requires xx amount of time dedication you need to start calculating $/hour also.

I normally look at how MUCH profit before I bump.

If you have just made $40 profit and then you bump you might just go in circles breaking even.

However if the product is selling well and getting a lot of good feedback then bump.

There is no rule set in stone for this one.

Thanks for the feedback. The more I think about it, I see it does make sense to bump if I've made at least $40, especially in terms of list building and exposure.

    (40/P) = N

Where N is the break even number of product items you need to sell; P is the price of the product.

    Example: Selling something for $10:

(40/10) = 4 i.e. you would need to sell 4 items to break even.

what is simple equation. if you are making a profit on first run, then you can easily pay for a bump.
