How to promote a blog?

I recently created a blog about finances on blogger. I also tried to create a blog on wordpress.com but they do not allow advertising. The strage thing is that i see in search engine my unfinished page on wordpress but do not see my blog on blogger, eventhought I uploaded site map to all search engines. May I have some help with ideas how to promote a blog.

When did you set up your blogger blog? It can take some time for it to show up in the search engines. Plus depending on the niche and keywords it could be ranked very low which is why you are not seeing it, this is probably pretty likely since it's in the finance niche. If you just want to see if Google knows about your site go to google and type in:

    site:yourwebsite.com

If it comes up with something Google has at least crawled your site. You can use something like the firefox plugin ranktracker to see how your site is ranking.

More importantly I would just keep adding quality content to the blog and as Dann said start working on getting your blog out there...use social media, do some guest blogging, blog commenting, put the blog in your forum signatures etc.

Use the power of social media to promote your blog. Create a fan page or twitter account so that you can post updates with greater amount of audience
Bookmarking your blog is also a great idea. Stumbleupon, reddit, digg and delicious are good places to do it.

Don't worry, sometimes it just takes a while for it to show up in the search engines. You should make sure that you have the keyword phrase that you are trying to rank for throughout your blog (but not more than 4% of the content.) You just want to have it mentioned a few times so that people who are searching for that keyword can find your blog.

  • The same old same old. Great content, and forum marketing, twitter... blah, blah, blah.

To me it is all a waste of time. Get and affiliate program set-up and help your affiliates get rich and they will do all the promo for you.

Google is dead me. I no longer try to please the search engine gods. I have sites that were 100% original content slowly moving up the ranks and then suddenly drop way back. It is so hit and miss and its too much stress and a waste of time to please google. there are better ways to get traffic and make money.

Blogs can be promoted through blog commenting. Make sure that you pick related and relevant blogs and include your links in the comments. Also make sure that you don't spam the external blogs in their comments section.

After three weeks of promoting my blog i got some results. Not a big one, but i got my first money from adsense. Concerning promotion i can uncover a secret. For me the best way is to put plenty of backlinks in hight ranked site with PR 7 ,8 and 9. News sites like CNN, Washington post and bbc. They have comments area there you can put your backlinks. These sites are huge if you put comment with your backlink on the top article it will be probably deleted but before it will be deleted you will get some descent traffic. Also google tends to cash the content of top sites quite often and you have a chance what page with your backlink will be cashed before your comment will be deleted, so even thought they delete your comment google in cash think you have a backlink there.

A second secret you can put your backlinks in archives, they are not havily moderated, i have my links on top news sites in archives for weeks and no one still deleted them.

There is nothing to worry about just ping your blog and write an article and submit to ezinearticles or goarticles with a link back to your site. Hope just pinging is enough to get a blog indexed but to make things happen faster, use social sharing sites like digg, reddit.

    • People seem to miss this basic fact but here it is:

      Your blog promotes your blog.

You can't just throw up a half-dozen articles and expect to succeed. Realistically, you're going to need several hundred. Outsource them if you need to, but honest to Pete don't bother with any of that social media crapola until your blog is stuffed with content like a Strasbourg goose.

        This, this, and THIS.

Why waste time promoting a blog that people are instantly going to leave upon finding?
Make sure that your content is high quality and that there is a lot of it. If you have a tonne of content that you want to display but want to create the appearance of a reguarly updated blog, backdate it as desired.

Once you've got a blog jam packed with useful information, build relationships with other bloggers and your potential readerbase by providing useful comments and eventually guest posts on other blogs in your niche.

Very well said, although you certainly do not need that much content before you start promoting it, but having at least five to ten articles would be good. Of course, it comes down a lot to quality and the length of each article.

Sorry, I'm not one of those "do the absolute minimum" bloggers.

Sure, if you're just blogging to get pennies from AdSense, why put much effort into it? (Though you'll make more from AdSense if you have more valuable content...)

I don't think length has anything to do with it. There's nothing more boring to read than a piece written to word count. You know the ones... where the writer crafts a sentence, then states it differently, then states it a third time. It's sleep-inducing.

I never said nor did I imply that you were. I know that I am certainly not interested in building one of those tiny adsense blogs.

All I was saying was that you certainly do not need to hold off on promoting your blog until you have loads of blog posts, you can start quite early and that will make a perfect strategy, regardless of whether if you are building an "authority" blog or an adsense blog. If you were to ask many of the top bloggers, in any niche, you would probably find that many of them started leaving comments on other blogs, tweeting, etc., quite early. As long as you have some content on there for new arrivals, there is no reason not to do it. Most people do not have the energy to read through that many posts when they first land on a blog anyway.
Of course, then you have to make sure to update your blog regularly with great content.

Well, I certainly think that length has a lot to do with it. That said, a 100 word post can certainly be better than one that has 3000 words. I never said that you should write your posts to word count.
Here is an article where the blogger analysed some of the most successful blogs on the web. You may be interested in reading it.

All that said, I would say that this does not matter too much in the long run. Whether if you build a blog with a massive and loyal following or not, will probably come down more to the quality of the content, etc., and not so much on how long you waited until you started promoting it.

Websites primarily have this problem of indexing. But as you start the link building, it vanishes. That is not a big issue with the website.

But the problem that most webmasters face with getting quality traffic to website. And you should concentrate there also i.e to build quality traffic to your website.
