Aussie Kindle Authors could you help me

Hi,
Like a lot of others, I'm thinking to publish on Kindle.
But I don't understand their withholding tax rules
and how I could make a profit if my percentage is only 35%.
I understand they withhold 30% in US

I would assume I still need to pay 30% biz tax here in Oz, also.

I'm really confused, so need some help to understand all the implications
to publish on kindle if I am an Aussie.

Would appreciate some advice here or you can PM me.

Thanks
Carl

Yes of course I have, but doesn't help me much.
I would like to hear from others that have already been
through the process and how they got started.

I'm in UK but similar if not same rules.
If you price your ebook between $2.99 and $9.99 then your royalty is 70% and Amazon.com keep 30%. They automatically withold 30% tax unless your country has a tax treaty with the US and then you need to get an ITIN or EIN (basically a tax number) from the tax authorities in the US. Once you have this then you supply it to Amazon.com on form W8-BEN and they then withold at the rate set in the tax treaty. In the case of the UK this is 0%, but its normally pretty low for most countries.
You will, of course, be subject to tax in your own country at the prevailing rate.

Thanks for that info but I hope someone from OZ
could clarify that to be similar but I need to be sure.
I don't know if we have a tax treaty with the US and it
may be different to the UK.
Also, what royalty percentage is applicable to us Aussies
      70% or 35%.
I'm sure some aussie publishers could let me know.

I'm also about to start selling through kindle. I'll let you know what I find out as I'm interested in the answer also.

        Cheers

PS: Wasn't meaning to sound harsh before. Was just wondering what the response from amazon was. Stay in touch.

All of the tax information is on the Amazon website.

Amazon.com Help: IRS Reporting Regulations on Third-Party Payment Transactions

Royalty percentage depends on what your sell price is, and to what country you sell the book to, your end of month reports will tell you, but sales to non US territories will pay 35% and sales to US territories will pay 70% if your book is priced at $2.99-$9.99.

Sales to EU territories through the Amazon EU websites will pay 70%

Where abouts in QLD are you?
