STUMPED: Monetizing a non adult site for 'adult' traffic?!?

i'm admin for a movie review site that deals with main stream movies. NOT adult oriented. However, we have quite a bit of 'authority' and when one of the authors puts a tag up that says 'actress naked' or something like that, we get BOMBARDED with traffic. literally, we just got an extra 2000 uniques yesterday because he commented about how 'fan boys and stalkers alike will be happy to see <actress> naked'

this is a two part question.

part 1: how do we monetize a movie review site. we have had this baby for a little over two years and NOTHING brings in more than $10 a month. i have adsense sites with 5 uniques a day pulling if FAR more than that a month. Yet we cannot monetize our typical ~1000 uniques a day

part 2: NONE of us want to be associated with the adult industry. so how do we capitalize on the traffic looking for that content, without picking up adult affilates?

QUICK NOTE: we have tried all the typical revenue generators - adsense, amazon, ebay, chitika, kontera, adbrite, and dozens more. nothing brings in anything near enough to decent

    K.

Usually, to figure out how, I just look at other sites that are in the same niche and explore what they are doing.

Just from the number of responses you've had, you can see that this is a challenge that can only be overcome by experimenting.

I hope the bump presents more answers.
    Good luck,
    Sam

A lot of adult sites display banners from the Fling.com affiliate program, so that must be making them money. You can also set the banners and landing page to be PG or PG13 rated so you don't have to display actual naked pics.

well here is the thing. i have looked over some of our chief competitors, and in the past they subscribed to doubleclick (paid to put their adverts up). now google owns them and i have yet to get a blasted application approved but am looking to try that.

adsense was garbage for the site as it was impossible to keep the authors in line for onpage SEO to get the right ads to show up. even then the CTR was terrible.

as for fling.com i haven't heard of it but can check it when i am not at work. and again, we do not wish to be associated with adult companies, that means being paid by them to direct traffic. otherwise we would have gone with mr. skin as that is a direct relation to the traffic we are getting.

i am looking for a gray are for the customers that keeps us happily out of the industry, and still capitalizes on the traffic bursts.

we literally creeping up on some of the biggest names in movie review sites and coming up really short money wise.

Second option is just selling them damn things off of Amazon.

If you HAVE, and it didn't pan out, then perhaps broaden the scope a bit.
Movie memorabilia links perhaps. It'll take a bit of coding, and finding an affiliate that actually has a product feed (Share a Sale offers this option, although once again, Amazon), but then you can just create link the title, or certain keywords, to specific items in the product feed.
we started with netflix and blockbuster. got nada. not a single sign up. then again, back when we tried those we have less than a hundred hits a day. might be worth trying again.

we tried amazon and in a year and a half hit 100$ (well slightly under).

we recently tried movie items like posters and toys. no one clicked through.

the dating sites i toyed with, but typically those searching for adult items are interested in the adult dating sites and therefore probably won't click through. we can try it though.

we even looked at building our own store (using online companies) to provide shirts, and other things...but our consistant fan base is small (though VERY strong) and the potential there is very small.

thanks for the replies. looks like it keeps coming back to what we have already tried though.

I own a site in the celebrity/entertainment niche. Affiliate programs for dating/seduction ebooks or training courses have worked well for me.

They convert well with male traffic and the trick is not to display them sitewide but only on hot pages that get 'adult' traffic.

You could check into affiliate programs with the dating sites like match.com or singlenet. Some of the more risque ones (married but looking, etc) may be more than you want though.
