Amazon Affiliate or Email Marketing?

I was wonder which one should I start up first, Amazon Affiliate or Email Marketing? I want to at one point or another have both under my belt (In the future of course) And was just wondering which one would you recommend me to start up first?

Which one might need to come first in order to earn from it?

Or

Which one would have a quicker start up rate (to start earning within a few months of hard work)?

Any advice on which field I should go into next would be very much appreciated Thank you all for your time!

Whatever niche you choose, I think it's best to start
    off learning Email Marketing.

    Why?

It's one of the most profitable skills to learn in Internet
    Marketing.

You see, once you have a list, you build a real asset
and you OWN an instant traffic source.

    Think about it...

Not all successful Internet Marketing gurus are doing
Amazon affiliate marketing, but just about all of them
are doing Email Marketing up the Ying-Yang.

I'd start with building a list because it's a common
success factor amongst successful Internet Marketers.

And list building is a skill that you can apply to just
about any market you choose to operate in.

    Dedicated to mutual success,

Thank you very much for that honest opinion!

I was personally leaning toward building a list first as well! Its something that Im so very interested in but I know Ill have to invest a great deal of time and effort not only to get the numbers for the list but also to get some costumers willing to buy some of my products or affiliate products I promote.

Getting a following might help with building a list, so Ive been looking into that but when it comes down to it traffic is something I am see in need of, so building a list might bring more traffic as well... Its all so very convincing!

    Thank you!

Your choice does not necessarily have to be either/or; you perhaps could consider doing both. It's actually quite common for many successful affiliates to use email marketing for promoting products such as Amazon, Clickbank, etc. Multiple exposures maximize conversion rates.

Email marketing is a promotional medium, a means of reaching prospects; Amazon Associates is a form of monetisation.

It kind of works best when you combine both, for each alone won't boost your bank balance. :p

Do both! You need a squeeze page to build your list, because without a list you can't do email marketing. (unless you buy lists but those suck) Make sure you CAN be an affilaite for amazon, I can't because my state doesnt allow it. If you can, Id do both simultaneously.

building a list is a lot more profitable how ever you do need some knowledge in order to be able to build a list and give away value for free

if you try to run before you can walk it will be like the blind leading the blind

if you havent earned hardly anything online yet i would stick to amazon untill you get some experience and skills under your belt

if you had some half decent results then start building a list and create a valuable free gift to build your list with and go from there

I would highly suggest both. You can put amazon links in both your posts and in your emails!

For your particular website I think a weekly newsletter would be great. You can update people about new blog posts and your podcasts so people will keep coming back.

As for Amazon, you can link to games you talk about or accessories you mention in your posts. They will work very well together!

Be very careful about this. It is actually specifically against Amazon's TOS to have affiliate links in emails and various other off-site promotions. You can lose your account without any warning for violation. Instead, have email promotion links intermediately point to your product presell sites or review pages.

They're not alternatives. One is a retailer with an affiliate program, and the other is a marketing method. The people I know who do best as Amazon affiliates are actually using email marketing.

The biggest reason to do both is the fact that neither will be as effective alone. If you only promote Amazon products, you won't have as many visitors coming back week after week. If you only do email marketing, what will you promote to your list to make money?

I'd focus on both at the same time. This may go against the grain to what you usually hear, but setup an Amazon site, do some SEO work for it, and then also setup a squeeze page and start driving traffic to it to capture leads for email marketing. The key is diversification so why not work on both at the same time.
