Default How much is this website worth? Any Advice?

I am new to this site but have read through many of the posts. I have quickly realized that there is a lot I need to learn. I am interested in buying a website (combatleadership.com) and was wondering if any of you might be able to provide some advice on how to monetize the site. There is a lot of good content on the site but I think the bookstore could be updated and I have heard about the benefits of google adsense. What about advertising? Any warriors out there have any advice?

Just a thought ... Do you think the amazon affiliate links in that store gets you decent amount of money? I heard from many people that Amazon affiliate program don't earn much.

Amazon affiliate is roughly 4%, not a whole lot, but trusted, adsense doesn't add up to a whole lot either.

I suggest finding CPA offers or offers on clickbank, if you can't find them and you can't create an information product on you own that people will be willing to buy, then skip this site and find something more profitable.

This doesn't look like the best beginner site, consider something that you can easily find targeted buyers on a forum, that allows signatures, this will make it much easier to make some money.

There are plenty of combat related video game forums, you may be interested in.

I am not sure how much you are paying for it but here is my $.02:

1 - There are not many Adsense ads in the niche, so there wouldn't much money there.

2 - Without accessing the forum, I don't know how active it is. This will probably be your main draw to get visitors.

3 - You may want to thumb through some magazines that military guys read and find advertisers in them and approach them directly about sponsorship in the forum and on the main site. Add a newsletter and request sponsorship for that as well.

4 - Create your own info products to sell through the site related to combat readiness and leadership.

5 - The bulk of your efforts will be spent link-building, so make sure you have enough avenues to do this. Conduct some searches of similar sites and see how many are out there. See who advertises on them.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but it is better to know what your goal is with the site before recommending anything specific.

Good luck with your new project!

Thanks for the input! I really want to buy this site and improve it. I look at it as a long term investment that can be made to produce consistent income. I have a day job and really do not want to get involved in the actual shipping/handling of products – I don’t have the time to devote to this task.

The bookstore is just one way I think revenue can be made. A good number of military guys read quite a bit of history, leadership, etc., books and I think if the bookstore was designed to make it easy for them to explore certain topic areas sales would be good. I don’t view the bookstore as producing huge revenue, but every bit helps. Question: are their folks who specialize in creating Amazon bookstores that can be “inserted” into a website like this? I’d like to outsource this task if possible.

Military guys also buy a lot of gear like clothing, boots, knives, flashlights, etc., from online sources. There are several big companies who offer affiliate programs (Brigade Quartermaster, etc) and I’d like to hear your thoughts on such programs.

I also think some military related companies would advertise on the site. The military presents a fairly big market and because so many soldiers, etc., are stationed overseas or away from home they tend to do online shopping in a consistent and frequent manner.

I realize it is all about building traffic and getting lots of people to the website. I think this website can be spiffed up and be made very attractive for users. I do have access to some very good technical folks who can do any work necessary on the website. Right now I am looking for ideas for monetizing the site that I may not know of, etc.

Thanks!

I agree - being former military stationed oversea's, I understand where you are coming from.. sounds like a good target market.

As the previous post already mentioned, I also was going to mention military.com. They have built up quite an amazing following. Their forums and video sites are great. They get massive amounts of advertisers also. I think you have a great idea and you can definitely make money with your site! I think a lot of the military guys will go direct to the source companies for their products but if you developer a dedicated following in your forum, as well as an email list...I think you will be able to sell products to those members who become loyal to your site. Heck, you could also promote your site on military.com.

Is the site for sale? Or are you thinking of making an offer directly to the owner? What kind of price are they asking? Have you done your research on the site...alexa.com etc. Your home work may not turn up much, but the only other tool for you to use is your own desire. It sounds like you are into this site! Thats what it takes. I say go for it. It is possible! Good luck, and if I can be of any help to you, let me know.

You can advertise it using articles linked to your website.

By the way OP usually sites are worth 10-12 months of revenue if the site have a stable income for at least 3-4 months
