What are your all-time most favorite marketing books?

Not ebooks, but real books that you can get from Amazon. Could you please list your favorite marketing/sales/online marketing/etc. books, and explain why you like them so much? I'm asking because I got a giftcard for Amazon, and I'm wondering what would be the best books to get with it.

Thanks.

    My #1 vote goes for...

    Scientific Advertising/My Life in Advertising
    by Claude
    Hopkins

The ad mogul David Ogilvy said that you shouldn't be
involved in advertising until you've read Scientific
    Advertising at least 7 times.

I heard Jay Abraham say that he's read it over 50 times
    now.

Even though it was written in 1923, it will teach you a
    LOT about Internet Marketing.

If you haven't got it yet, put it on the list.

    Dedicated to mutual success,

    Shaun

One I like is Multiple Streams of Internet Income by Robert Allen. The part that I like is the 2-3 chapters in the beginning where he gives a very good explanation about marketing. Not tactics like build a list and send them offers but the big picture, the big strategy - things that aren't talked about in most marketing books I've seen.

Another is Getting the Most out of What You've Got by Jay Abraham.

  • Don't forget business biographies. While most of these aren't necessarily marketing books, many of them do reveal how the business was initially promoted.

Warren Buffet The Making Of An American Capitalist

    Hard Drive Bill Gates

Icon Steve Jobs (Don't forget the newest biography by Walter Isaccson)

    Sam Walton Made In America

    etc.

I think maybe if you were a bit more specific about what you're looking for it would be easier. Four Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferriss is good though it's not strictly a marketing book. I'd say this book is more about specific online business models or styles of business. Though there is a lot of stuff on marketing in here as well as a lot of motivational (not traditional self help and motivational stuff) information.

Ferriss was once a miserable corporate drone who got hip to selling online. He's designed a lot of specific tests or guidelines to evaluate whether or not a business idea makes sense. There are a bunch of case studies included where he uses the model.

He's big on real autopilot operations so the projects he takes on have to generate enough profit to pay other people to work them and still deliver a healthy profit. He's also really big on "rolling out" a project and testing. There are tons of excellent references and resources in the book designed to help you get started.

There is one drawback (for me anyway) in the book and that is he talks a lot about getting away to various hot vacation spots around the world to enjoy his profits. He's living a certain lifestyle and he openly discusses it. My idea of leisure and his are very different so, while the information isn't bad, it's just not something I'm interested in. The rest of the book is excellent. If you do get it be sure to get the updated version.

There's another decent book out there you might like titled, Your Portable EMPIRE - How To Make Money Anywhere While Doing What You Love by Pat O'Bryan.

I wouldn't call this a beginner's book but it's not advanced either. Much of what's covered in Your Portable EMPIRE you'll find discussed here on Warrior Forum. I read this last year and enjoyed it even though I was familiar with almost everything he discussed in it.

Both of these books are solid. And they do provide a lot of inspiration because they're coming from guys who are actually doing what they write about. There are many Websites referenced in each one where you can actually check out exactly what they talk about in their books. Good luck.

Millionaire Fastlane by MJ DeMarco really boils down how to succeed in small business and how it's not just about working for yourself but setting yourself up for a great payday down the road by adding value to your business and investing a lot of sweat equity in the beginning....Definitely a must read!

I also echo the earlier recommendation for Getting Everything You Can Out Of All You Got by Jay Abraham. It will change your marketing perspective towards everything!
