Selling a Health Product to doctors?

I have this great health product that works like a charm.

I was thinking of contacting doctors and pharmacies to see if they would be interested in it. This will work wonders for old people as well.

What you think? Any suggestions before I make my move?

    Is it licensed?

In the UK, at least, I believe doctors cannot prescribe something without it being licensed or authorised. Some apps were recently authorised to be used, but I believe it took some time.

Pharmacies are slightly different. The ones that sell QVC items, for example, could sell your item, but they probably wouldn't promote it, and it'd rely on people seeing it and wanting it.

I suppose it depends what your idea is, as to where would be best to promote and try to sell it. Is it highly specialised?

Doctors don't sell direct here in the USA they write prescriptions. For a pharmaceutical product to be offered as a prescription it needs FDA approval, so reckon on around $10M to get that going. If it isn't a pharma product then you have other options.

If it can be sold without a prescription then contact any health/vitamin store including some of the bigger ones like Walgreens (In the USA). You'll need a Certificate of Conformance from the manufacturer along with a copy of theirs and yours liability insurance. Some of the bigger places may also ask you for copies of the FDA issued license for the manufacturing plant and possibly eGMP certification if it's a vitamin.

Some of the smaller mom and pop vitamin shops won't be so picky.

Why does everyone just assume this is a restricted item or prescription product? Maybe it's a better back scratcher or jock strap.

Wouldn't you approach supermarkets or health stores with those? Rather than doctors?

Plus, I really hope old people don't wear jock straps.

Yeah, I guess my examples were a little off. Just wondering why nearly everyone assumes that something is going to be as difficult as it could possibly be without even knowing what the product is.

I once manufactured orthopedic products (slings lumbar supports and related stuff) and sold them to doctors for resale and there were absolutely no licenses, prescriptions or restrictions on them.

I didn't....in case that was directed at me. ("everyone" certainly includes me)

This is what I said - "If it isn't a pharma product then you have other options."

The OP didn't really give much away, so I've tried to offer something based on 15 years experience dealing with this stuff.

That fact that my response was somewhat general was based on the OP's question, which was also somewhat general.

You should research whether you need a special license for that sort of thing in depth before you start marketing it to physicians. I would be damn sure that it will live up to the hype as well, because, while there are doctors out there who are less discerning, most doctors will want to see proof before they will support any product.

  • I am a medical sales rep in my day job and yeah...you got a lot of approvals to jump through before you can pursue this.

Yes you can sell the product to the doctor for that they have the lenience to treat patient so they can take the medicine in the low cost and that is the good for the patient and he can recover there health quickly .

If it isn't a pharma type product and is indeed some type of device, if you think it has potential, at one point you should consider protecting it with a patent. The last thing you need is to pitch your product around everywhere and then either the doctors or staff tell someone about it and they get rich instead of you. Mind you, patents can be expensive if you're just starting off with revenue.

it better that you sold your products more in the market .
So it will gain trust for the doctor to use your product after they find lot of gd review on website or lot of demand and easy to find everywhere in the market.
