Finished My E-book, Now What?

Hi everyone, long time reader, first time poster so please be gentle. Between this site and a few other sites that I read frequently, I am on information overload on what to do next. This is my first attempt at trying to bring a digital product or a blog to market so I am looking for a little guidance.

I have recently finished a 35 page e-book focused on a topic very specific to my chosen niche market. I have a blog setup to go with it complete with a mailing list signup (free product giveaway for signing up) and all the social buttons look great, but I am not sure what I should be doing next. I have created a twitter account and followed other people in my niche and a few have reciprocated but so far I am only attracting other people selling the same type of services/products so that isn't really going to be helpful from what I can see. My particular niche is very crowded it seems so I might be getting lost in the shuffle. So far my blog has been online for about three months and i have about 10 articles and several other smaller articles I have used across article directories for back links. So far my success has been minimal for the last 90 days or so. What should I be doing next?

Thanks

the best way is paid advertising but this depends on your budget. Is the book original and yours? if so you could place it for sale on Amazon (kindle)

I would recommend some solo ads or list swaps and video marketing.

Social media might work really well too.

Hey man, so it looks like you need traffic to your site so that you'll see sign-ups to your list etc. This is a method you can use but you must have a paid product on the backend so that you can entice JVs with commissions.

One way of achieving this would be to make a list of Targeted Keywords related to your Niche. Search for related websites in Google and contact various different website owners/forums etc. and ask would they be interested in forming a partnership with you. If they respond favorably then email them on the full details about your offer and what kind of commission your offering.

It is a numbers game but if your product converts then you will attract partners who will be able to drive traffic to your optin page. You win by building a list off the free ebook and the other person wins from the commissions from the backend sales

i agree with the guys above in terms of what to do next, i would focus on getting your blog to the top of the ranking through good content. that is what people really want and the search engines will reward you for it by putting you at the top of the search results.

make sure you do a really good job of 'selling' that book through copy, and benefits, etc.

if you want me to take a look please send me the link and/or visit my blog and email me there.

    hope this helps,

In America anyone can go straight to the top. And here's what's exciting- It is the bottom that is crowded, not the top.

Well, I agree with everyone else that has posted a comment, but something
else you can do to make sales is to offer your ebook for sale on sites like:

    www.Click2Sell.com

    www.JVzoo.com

    www.ebookbay.com

    www.rapbank.com

    www.tradebit.com

    www.youpublish.com

    www.payspree.com

    www.lulu.com

    www.payloadz.com

    www.createspace.com

    www.paydotcom.com

This is just a few of the places you can list your ebook for sale and
also get affiliates to sign up to help sell your ebook.

    I hope this helps,

    Martin

Focused effort. Make a plan. If you want quick traffic then go with paid advertising. Facebook PPC, solo ads, banner ads, etc. You will need to test if your product converts. I imagine that you could write your next e-book in 1-3 days if you focused in with no distractions and took massive action towards knocking that out.

  • Martin makes some good points. You might think that once you are done writing the ebook you have accomplished the hard part, unfortunately that isnt the case. Keep working and you'll make a bundle.

  • Also something that has worked for me in the past is using Amazon's epublisher.

Go find someone else in your niche who has a blog and a mailing list. Contact him and offer him a commission if he mails your offer to his list. Contact about 10 of these people and you should get at least 2.

I was in the same position a couple years ago. The only thing that worked for me was... surprise, surprise! - creating good quality content and publishing it on my blog!

By now I have nearly 200 blog posts on my blog.

They amass massive organic traffic and convert enough sales to make it worthwhile.

And the beauty of it is - it doesn't cost you a dime (well.. OK, there are related expenses but figuratively speaking it's all elbow grease) and once you start getting decent organic traffic, no-one can take it away from you - as far as you're not involved in some shabby black-hat SEO or something.

So I'd suggest just start writing and publishing REALLY USEFUL articles on your blog and stick with it for at least 6 months.

Thank you everyone for all of the replies! You guys are all awesome!

Does it make sense to have my sales page as part of my blog? Right now my structure is setup as my blog is just the root of my domain and my ebook sales page is just a page off of that (its all in wordpress, i would show links but i can't due to post count)

is that a good thing to do or should i have a totally separate domain dedicated just to my squeeze page and sales page?

If anyone is willing, could I PM you a link to my site ( i don't want to spam it here) and maybe give me a few pointers on what i have done thus far?

I have the same exact question.....I am also in the same position. Just finished an ebook but I also just learned an hour ago I will be losing my teaching job at the end of the year. I am hoping to learn from the answers from your thread and take matters in my own hands.

I would say create a great looking cover and put it on kindle to try the market out. The only way to see if it will work is to try it.

I was also going to recommend adding more quality content to your blog. Also you can find some other blogs in your niche and contact the blog owners about doing some guest posting on their blogs. This will help get your blog some exposure along with some traffic.

    Hi Expermatics

If I were you I would have looked at what bonuses you could add to the book that the readers perceive to have a larger value than the actual book. That would allow you to charge a higher price for it.

I would suggest JV's with people and companies that benefits from having your customers. For instance if you have written a book on taking pictures, then a natural JV would be an equipment seller that would be willing to provide 10% discounts on cameras and related equipment. A reverse deal could be to give the book away for free to their customers where they had to sign up to your list to get it. Another way to find good bonus ideas is to look at what is being searched on Google around your niche through their keyword tool.

While you do that I would try to show the book to as many prospective customers as possible and ask for their feedback. Ask them also what the perfect offer would be.

When your content is done I would suggest finding a great editor to rip the way it is being presented apart and put it into a "for dummy" format. It will increase the volume of the book without increasing the content and give the reader the illusion that the book is easy to read. In reality if you find three ways of saying the exact same thing you their awareness of your point is slowly increasing. That can be done by first saying it in text, then as an example and then in the end through summary bullets.
