Email Marketing- What Strategies Have Worked For You

I have decided to get serious and start creating lists on a number of my websites.

My question is what strategies do you use to sell to your list? What has worked and what has not worked? Does this vary on the type of website? For example, I have a few smaller sites that are really geared towards adsense that are more a one shot deal like one is on firewood. For a site like this, would you use your list differently, use an autoresponder with PLR articles, or should they all be broadened out?

    One thing I'm sure about is that you should create a thank you for almost opting in page and implore your almost subscribers to confirm their subscription right that very minute so that they can become real subscribers...

    ... - if you're trying to build your lists.

    If you do that your confirmation rate will be in the high 90's.

    Yea, the thing these days seems to be to overload them with free content, and make offers rarely, but when you do there is a high response.

    I agree with Sam... make sure you add value and build trust. The good news is that it's relatively simple to do as long as you stay relevant. Also - regardless of topic, you should definitely try to employ some good strategies. Thank them for signing up, offer them a product, tell them why its a good deal, pre-answer any objections, etc.

    Doing this over a series of emails builds trust and credibility between you and your customer.

      This is good stuff. Thank you. What do you think works best for getting people to sign on to a list and make sales:

      1. Offer a small free ebook that gives tips and relevant information to your topic. Then, send emails by promoting a product every third email. The first two emails would be helpful informative posts that don't push anything.

      Or

      2. Offer a large ebook at a discounted rate 5 to $20 for like 100 to 200 page book. This book would have affiliate links to various relevant products. Then, you followup on the list with a similar format as #1, with the 3rd email promoting one of the products mentioned in more detail with a product review type setup.

      *Also, has anyone here or heard of anyone who was able to get company sponsorship for the free ebook they promote. Something where you give them some brand awareness and a link to their site. An example would be like you put "Brought to you by Acme Products" on the front page. I could see you do this two ways: one as a kind of lump sum for it or where you charge them every time the report gets downloaded at a rate cheaper than they are paying for their Adwords? I am curious if anyone here has any experience with this?

      Anyway, based on #1 and #2, which do you think works better for building a list and making sales.
