How much are one word expired domain names worth, .net, .org, .info actually? I stumbled on something I believe is worth gold. . .

They are worth what somebody is willing to pay for them; not less and not more.

Well, it would depend on what the word is..................

They can sell for a lot, depending on the word. But .net/.org/.info tend to go for strikingly less than .com.

A domain-name in itself has no intrinsic value beyond its reg-fee renewal price. What determines how much it will go for depends entirely on the skill of its seller in finding another person/people to whom it has additional value for their own purposes.

finding a one word drop is one thing...catching it is another

    • Let me guess: You've found a domain you think is hot.

But you can't tell us what it is because you haven't registered it yet.

If you're not willing to spend $2 (with coupon) at GoDaddy on a speculative venture, I don't think "top domainers" are going to take you seriously.

No one can even take a guess without knowing the name.

For example, tell us that you own sex.com, and I'll tell you that you're gonna retire early and rich.

But tell us that you own some obscure word that no one even knows the definition of, and I'll tell you not to spend your $1 profit all in one place. (And that's being generous, because you're likely to lose money on it.)

      ^^^^^^^
This exactly. Plus the fact that it is expired raises questions about its worth.

      I bought daypacking.com

Essentially, it's backpacking with a day pack, instead of a back pack. Get it?

Everything has gotten smaller; mobiles, chocolate bars, and even our our savings.

I believe one day, everyone will be daypacking around the world with a 30 liter day pack. It has so many benefits and it's cool.

When it does - I'll be rich I tell you, lol.

I also made up a word to do with lucid dreaming. How good is your lucidability. I bought the .com lol.

Not "lucidibility" (like "lucidity", and "credibility", and "visibility", and so on)?

No, like capability, disability, reliability, etc.

I've had more than I care to mention of those ahaaa moments where I thought I might strike gold ... only to let them expire one or two years later.

Thanks for all the comments. So, basically, a one word(dictionary word) domain isn't worth at least $100 as an expired domain?

So what kind of words sell and why are those other one word domain priced so high, without a website on them?

Go to the Google Keyword tool and find out how often that word is searched. If it brings in a reasonable number then scoop it up and there you go.

It depends on what word it is and why it dropped.

Most pending delete domains are there because they have no value. Some are gems because either the owner forgot to renew, or has died, or is in jail or who knows but these one word domains are extremely hard to actually catch.

Look up dropcatching services and you will get a better picture of how hard it is to grab a one word valuable .com that is dropping. 100-s of domainers will be going after this very word and 100-s of registrars will try to catch it.

Even if you know how and where to backorder you still have to win the inevitable auction that follows any domain with value that is dropping....

Okay. . . Here is another one. Among the expired names is one which seem to look good. The niche is technology and the name is for chemical that seem very valuable for space ship manufacturing and the .com is available. I googled and found out there are companies selling this chemical. I am about to register the name and contact this companies. Wish me luck. . .

Good luck! Check that it isn't trademarked (some chemical names are!) before you pay for it?

Atvking, thanks. Lol. . . You just used one of the words I found among the expired names. Its a .org and I will grab it now.

Alexa, thanks! Its not a trademark name and its just a usual jargon for the techonology niche, a chemical name used for aircrafts.

Among the listed expired names were precambrian.org, which is a term meant for time in geology at which lived a specific species of animals like dinosaurs. But it has been acquired. Another that was listed but had been acquire is travellodge.org

Does anyone care for a dictionary word? Okay have this obligatory.us

A .us would have a low value, plus there's not much commercial value in obligatory. Just being one word will not make it valuable. Think commercial value. As an example, take obligatory.com and sinks.com. Which one has commercial value?

Thanks suz, and that's why I have opted for the chemical name because it seem valuable to aero-technology niche, since it is use to manufacture them.

I found loaned.info in the list but had been acquired. Well there are more like this.

I found a domain that fits the oil and gas industry. . . Does anyone here market to such industry? The domain name is actual a jagon used to describe the actual formation in which crude oil is held underground and its wide used term in the oil and gas industry. Infact, you can't talk about how crude oil formed without mentioning it. Else, it would be an incomplete structure.

It's extremely hard to sell a domain to a big business. Especially in the heavy industries or oil. You see the problem is you can not really offer the domain to anybody who is anybody in the company. You can not get your offer to the CEO because his e-mail will not be available to you, his secretary will probably not pass on your unsolicited offer because he gets 1000s of them every day.

Think smaller. Geo+biz domains sell well. For example Chicagoplumbing.com and even then it may take you years to sell it....
