Alright I'm wondering what portion of internet marketers make the majority of their online income from selling products about internet marketing.
I suppose its best to break this up into two questions:
1. Portion of IMers in general
2. Portion of IMers on WarriorForum

Anyone got a guess?

    1. In general? Probably less than 10 percent, but that's a guess. It could be more

    2. On WF? Probably around 20-30 percent. But that's a guess. And that's a percentage of the ones that actually make money online, which is likely only 3-4 percent of people on WF.

Many people who start in IM who don't already own a business start buying information on IM. When they realize that many of these products are junk they decide to sell IM products themselves because they already know where all the traffic for these types of products are. This starts a big circle though because people who don't know how to make money online end up being the ones who teach it. Most people who know how keep their secrets.

This is the best post I've read in a while. Funny because it is so true.

If the bold statement were true, this forum wouldn't exist now would it? You are right though with the statement that many newbies go straight to trying to sell an IM product. They do so for a couple of reasons:

      1. As you mentioned, they buy a crap product. These people think to themselves "s***, even I can make a better product than this. They try, and often fail because that is the exact same thing that the original seller tried to do.

      2. They pick up a great product, with principles and methods based on facts and proven business principles. A newbie will go wrong though when trying to reverse engineer this method to work for them. They figure that since this method came from the IM niche, the seller could only have achieved them by selling products like this. An irrational mental block forms that stops them from thinking creatively at all.

There are other reasons as well; but those are the two that seem to crop up the most (a few years ago, I actually had the same flawed mindset).

Anyways, lets get back to the original point that I was trying to make. Successful businesses that market online are not hiding any magical secrets from you. If you believe so, you are just throwing up another insurmountable (and fake) mental hurdle for yourself.

Business is pretty much the same as it has been since the dawn of civilization. Outside of switching from a barter system to a monetary system, things still work the same way: buyer wants something, seller has it (or knows where to get it), buyer gives cash, seller gives desired item/service. It should not be a hard concept to grasp, and those who get it are the ones succeeding today.

Now the methods that are being used to market and sell these days may be different. They are not secret though. There are threads on this very website that have in depth discussions on every method that today's marketers are using. Even better? They are all free, and you don't need to be part of any special marketers club to read, learn and implement them.

Oh, and to answer the OP's query, I would say a relatively small percentage of marketers make most of their income from selling IM products. Sure many will try; but most will fail. The most successful business people on here know how to diversify into an endless amount of niches. Some of the best marketers online don't even come to this or other IM websites. Chew on that.

While I agree that this is funny, I disagree that its true. People who have made money online do share their "secrets". There are lots of great products out there, and lots of great new ones coming out everyday.

Selection of the niche is very important when it comes to Internet marketing. The popularity of niches change with time. Still I think well over 10% of IMers!

It's refreshing to see a couple of you guys, or gals - whatever the case may be, being honest. I personally believe there to be plenty 'o gold left to be mined, but now, more so than just a few years ago, this is turning into a business in the traditional sense and the temporary wave afford many current and full time IMers will run its course and attrition will take its toll.

What will be left standing is those very few who actually did make themselves millions that way and those who approached this as an entrepreneurial business venture.

But what do I know ...

Depends on how you define an internet marketer I guess. If you define it as anyone marketing anything online...then the representative market is all e-commerce.

Overall e-commerce market is massive, I would guess that IM-related products only make up 1% or less...but obviously a much higher percentage on Warrior Forum as this is the target audience.

As for our business, 75% from non-IM niches (both physical products and information products outside IM) and ~ 25% within IM niche.

there are no secrets in making money online

for anyone that cant make anything, create a blog, write a new post every day for 3 months around a health niche and include some adsense on the site

if you dont make money by doing this then you really are not going to succeed in this game

i make some of my income from IM products but ive been in this game for 4 years and ive been around the block a few hundred times :-)

newbies do try and run before they can walk though

i think its the way the hypy marketers sell there products. They say you can earn all these thousands of dollars overnight by pushing a magic button and doing no work so a lot of people get conditioned into this way of thinking

when i came to the internet in late 07 start of 08 it was absolutely no different

there were crap products and good products, good marketers and bad marketers

you just have to wade through all the crap and after a while your BS detector will always steer you in the right direction
