Just wondering what you consider to be the minimum broad match monthly search volume to make a kw worth going after?

I wouldn't go after the "broad" category ever.

Stick to the [exact] search category so you can better understand the search volume of the terms.

Honestly, Google is not that accurate in reporting the traffic. However, I have found success in targeting keyword with only 100 exact searches a month.

They key is targeting many of them at the same time. If you get 100 articles outsourced on the topic. You can get 10,000 searches a month equivalently.

As the above poster said, you need to go after the "exact" category which gives you the possible numbers you can expect.

But you have to remember that "google keyword tool" is not accurate. The numbers google provides are based on the last 12 months and not the next 12 months in which your wanting to rank your keywords for.

Keyword research is basically a guessing game at the end of the day.

I'd only go for the widespread recommended amount of '1-3k' a month if it was high CPC, i might go lower for a good CPC/product though.

Generally I go for words with exact matches of at least 30k...Never understood why people recommend going for 1-3k unles it was pretty darn good cpc.

I seem to recall Market Samurai/30 day challenge having some decent logic to back up using broad match when looking at search volume and exact match when looking at competition. I'll see if I can dig it up........

I can't find the article I'm looking for.....anyone else care to share what exact match numbers they use for long-tail keywords in Market Samurai? minimum exact match seot per month and also max competition per month - seotc and/or seoc. Obviously I then go and look at the top sites in the competition matrix, but I'm looking for general guidelines for long-tail kw ms numbers.......please share!
