Social Media Outsourcing, Do You Do It?

I am started to look at outsourcing my social media work on three main sites and have come across some stumbling blocks. When I say outsource I mean growing followings and conversations on Twitter and Facebook

My first concern is that 2 of my main sites are niche specific and either require knowledge of the niche or the ability to research.

There seem to be a lot of companies out there that offer this but provide very little explanation of what they do and how they do it.

Have you outsourced this and how did you go about it and are you happy with the results?

Of course if you have any recommendations for where to go then that would be great as well. I have been unable, so far, to get/find a single recommendation.

Outsourcing is tough because finding a reliable "social media management" company is difficult & expensive. Plus, one of the key reasons to use social media is to create a voice and personality for your brand - which is pretty tough when you're outsourcing it to someone else (especially in a difficult niche).

Try to find a college student around your area who knows about what you do and see if you can work with them one-on-one to get the project off the ground.

I did think about finding a college student but I am looking for someone long term and didn't want to have to keep re-training. Maybe that is the route to go for though.

If you go the college student route, make sure you stagger the student schedule. What I mean by that is, spend time training your first student. Then, have them train another student about a month before the first one is ready to leave, and so on. That way, you only have to train once.
