Online Screen Capture Online Videos - Need a little advice

Hey There,

I'm just launching a website that utilizes screen capture videos for the first time and need a little help with a couple things.

  1. If filming an instructional video on a certain peice on online software are there any definite legal issues relating to it's commercial use?
  2. If through the course of filming the video you see usernames/images of others are there legal implications?
  3. What is the easiest method of blurring out potentially sensitive onscreen information from a video created in CamStudio Pro?
Thanks in advance to anyone that adds their voice to this topic and if you have any other advice or potentially helpful resources, feel free to share.

Cheers!

EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm using a PC. Mac Apps for editing are not an option right now.

not unless the avatar is being used for your business and it's been trademarked.

Thanks for your quick response. We just bought CamStudio Pro yesterday, is there really no alternative to blur out parts?

Not sure, return it for a refund is my advice. And get the best screencasting app for PC: Techsmith Camtasia.

I'm a new Warrior Forum member and I'm not sure if I know how to post a new message on here... Do I have to respond to a few before I'm able to post a NEW thread??

    Anway, getting to my question...

I have had Camtasia on my computer now for a few months and never did anything and Now I want to learn how to use it... I opened it up and I want to create some videos I have made, but it has proven very difficult for me to navigate around the Camtasia program, so I was hoping someone in here might have some insight of HOW to use this program... MAINLY, I want to make captions, so that I can display my website at the bottom of the video while it is playing... I've been using Windows Movie Maker, but I'm tired of it and I've heard Camtasia is better...

So, if anyone can help, it would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

You don't necessarily need the owner or creator of a product's permission to use it in a video. There are hundreds of tutorials made by third party publishers featuring how-to info for all kinds of things. For example, it you were going to demonstrate how to create videos for youtube and were using the latest Sony video camera for it, you're only helping Sony so why should they care. Now it you were O.J. Simpson... that might be another story.

With that said, it would be wise to ask just the same. Who knows, you could end up establishing a relationship beneficial to both parties. Good luck!
