To Freebie or Not To Freebie... That is the question.

Recently, I've seen a lot of discussion regarding using the leverage of a free gift to acquire leads for your email lists.

Do you find value in building a freebie list? or do you think freebie lists are mainly just a drain on your auto responder monthly fees? Why or why not?

It depends on your marketing strategy. If you have a list built on a free product you will need to keep feeding your subscribers vital and free info while at the same time trying to find slots of some products which you can earn from.

Both free and paid are viable but in my opinion a list built on freebies will gain you more subscribers maybe but often take a lot more content to generate a relationship and later earnings.

I say give them a freebie to start out. Extending an olive branch can go a long way in the early days of building a relationship with your users.

I have always liked the offers that give me a reasonable sample or a freebie related to the main product. If the demo product impresses me enough then I "upgrade" to the fully functional version.

For example, I have bought several e-books after reading the free 1,2 or 3 chapters of the book that were given away for free.

I don't like freebie's that seem to have no real value other than get me to give up my email address.

Building a list of buyers is better of course but before one becomes a
buyer, statistics tell us it may take a visitor up to 7 times of seeing a paid
    offer before buying it.

A marketer/product owner needs to build a relationship with its visitors to
show they are trustworthy and have their visitors best interests at heart and
that their product is of value and the best and easiest way to achieve this is
by simply getting them to join your list by first offering free stuff.

    Hope this answers your question.

If you're selling information products, you need to learn
how to give away free stuff STRATEGICALLY.

Many Internet Marketers give away too much free
information and end up with a list of subscribers
      who expect... free stuff.

Instead, give away information that moves people
closer to BUYING from you so you can build the more
      important lists of BUYERS.

      Dedicated to mutual success,

Millions have been made from giving away freebies.

Yes, a buyers list may buy more, but it is 40x easier to build a strong opt-in list by giving away something free.

I only use a freebie if it is part of my sales funnel.

It should naturally lead a person to my buy buttons, or it should not be free.

I also split my lists between how people got to the optin page. Did they buy something to get opted in? Or did they buy nothing and get on my list anyway?

Buyers lists are more powerful and profitable than lists filled with freebie seekers.

I have a fair mix of both, but the freebie lists are only there to give people more opportunities to hit one of my buy buttons.

I don't think getting a subscriber from giving away freebies can ever be a bad thing. They may not convert as well as a buyers list but they'll always easily make up for the autoresponder cost. At least in my experience anyway.
