Am i stealing traffic from my self

So I created some video content for one of my subpages, uploaded it to youtube and over night it is #5 for that subpages keyword. Now my subpage is still #1 but aren't people going to click the video thumbnail and go to youtube rather than my boring text description and go to my site. Am i stealing traffic from my self.

Now obviously i have a link to my homepage in the description and in my profile (which i think is do follow) so I am getting some seo benefit and that term gets 12x more traffic than the subpage but is it worth it.

How do i get the video thumbnail to show up in the description of my site rather than youtube.

    It would be a lot tougher to outrank Google and as long as you have a call to action in your video and a link back to your website, I wouldn't worry about it.
    Buyers will come back to your site and the browsers were not going to buy anyway so who cares if they get sidetracked on youtube.

    If you had put the video on your own site first and let Google find it there, you would probably have got what you want. Why not just create another video and only put it on your home page?

    By the way, I would not worry too much about the situation. In fact, I would be trying to occupy the other 8 spots too. You got 2 out of 10 for your keyword. Just think of the effect of completely occupying that page with your sales message on various properties.

    oh i should have mentioned, its not an affiliate site, its a lot of free information and then some content locked premium content, so if they get the information they need from the video they won't go to the site.

    What i really want to happen is for my to put the video on my page and then for it to show up in the description. It doesn't matter so much for this keyword because i'm all ready number 1 but for my main keyword i'm #6 and if i had a video i'd get a lot more clicks and then go up in the rankings. How do i make this happen

    Thanks for that Will, I have embedded the youtube video at top of the page in question but i suspect that is not what you mean. How would i add video to my site??

    If you have a strong call to action on your video, then posting on youtube as well as your own site should help you with more traffic and rankings. Don't worry about the youtube video if they'll still click through to your site to get what you are offering.

    Does anyone know, or have a link to someone who does, how to get a video thumbnail in your description, I've embedded my related youtube vid at the top of the page but I don't think that will do it.
