Fresh Newbie help with wordpress/clickbank

Hey guys , just starting out new with the whole internet marketing world.

I have written my own pdf on forex trading and will be posting it on clickbank.

Reading through some of the posts here , It has been suggested to a lot of people they start up a wordpress blog , so that's exactly what i've done.

I just did a test link from wordpress -> clickbank and it didn't work. Wordpress cut it off.

Is is possible to link to your own clickbank product from your wordpress blog?

I know this is probably a super newb question but that's exactly what I am

Thanks heaps - Graham

When you say "Wordpress blog", do you mean "a blog hosted at wordpress.com" or "a blog made from Wordpress software"?

    They're two very different things.

Blogs hosted at wordpress.com are subject to that site's terms of service, which exclude any form of monetization at all. It's only for "hobby bloggers".

Most "Wordpress blogs" are self-hosted, i.e. made from Wordpress.org software (which is free) installed on your own hosting.

Could this be the problem/confusion here?

Yes Alexa, I just went to wordpress dot com and signed up and made a blog that way

So I've gone about it all wrong. Do I have to buy a domain name , use the wordpress software and put it onto that domain?

      Yes ...

There's not much you need to know about this process, really. Different people have different opinions/preferences/advice about where to register and host, and they don't matter very much. All that matters, really, is that you should register and host in two different places. Don't buy the domain-name through the host, even if they have a special package-deal for that, which can save a few $$. It can cause problems later on, and it's safer to keep them separate.

(Personally, I'd recommend Namecheap for buying a domain-name and Hostgator for hosting it, because those are the best of each that I've used, myself, over the years).

It certainly makes things much easier if you use a host with a thing called "C-Panel" provided with your hosting, because that includes a "Wordpress installer" and if you do it that way, you can install the Wordpress software with one click, in less than one minute, rather than having to download it from wordpress.org and then upload it from your own computer to the host. It's just easier to have it effectively built-in, in the first place. (No problem at Hostgator.)

Get your hosting, your domain name and then install Wordpress.

I'd go with Hostgator and Namecheap.
