What Value Does an Expired Domain With 9 Years. . .

Yeah. . . I guess my curiousity about expired domain name is getting interesting.

I just found out at way back machine that an expired domain was first crawled by the machine back in 2003 and it expired in March,2012. If I register it now, could I sell it based on this. Its in the precious stone niche something like gold-mine.com(just an example) ?

    Does it have the hyphen?

The age of the domain makes it easier to rank, so does slightly increase the value, but it won't make a worthless domain worth something, as far as I understand it.

If it´s an aged domain with a nice PR and it only costs you around $10 I woul definitely try and purchase that domain, and sell it on flippa for much higher.

    So what´s the PR?
    What the age?
Can you create a site to go with it?
    Can you do some SEO?

If you can then do so and sell it as a whole website on flippa.

honestly it's worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. for one person it may be worthless and to anther it may be worth a million, you just never know.

Yeah it has an hyphen just like the example above.

There's also another one in the fashion niche. Its a .info and it has a 5 years life before expiration. It has an hyphen too.

I've had some good luck with those types of domains. I think one of the keys to a good aged domain is aged backlinks that still point to the domain. Many times this is the case as pages created back then are seldom updated.

Nothing scientific, mind you, just anecdotal assumptions on my part.

Just because it was registered ages ago doesn't mean it has any extra value. If it was dropped in the meantime, the original registration date probably didn't stay with it. Some domains go through many changes of hands and appear to be old, when in fact, they may carry no benefit of time and are equal with a domain that is registered for the first time.

Jideofor, you might want to delete the duplicate thread if you can.

I have had good luck with an old domain...I sold out at really attractive price but most of the time you don't get that much amount just because of your domain age. Niche, Domain Name, Age, Page Rank, Backlinks etc are some factor which effects the price.

    • Hi. Expired domain value for most webmasters depends on these factors:

      • Niche - If it's under a profitable niche where a lot of Internet users frequently go online to search for more info and content that can help them make an informed buying decision, so they can go ahead and purchase the solutions they need, then that's a good starting point...

      • Exact Match Domain Name - If its domain name is an exact match keyword with good local monthly search volume, low competition, good global monthly search volume and mid-range CPC, then that's a good thing, though much better if it's a buyer keyword and doesn't have any hyphens...

      • Existing Active Backlinks - If it still has active backlinks pointing to its index page and other internal page URLs in contextually relevant, heavily trafficked, high authority sites, then that's a good thing, especially if those source pages are top ranking in Google for relevant search terms...

      • Domain Age and Domain Homepage Google PR - Since you plan to sell the domain, then having a well-aged domain with a high Google PR homepage and other internal URLs also with good Google PR will make it more enticing for a lot of webmaster buyers...

Now, if you do find such an expired domain, I recommend building a custom designed Wordpress site under it, then post contextually relevant, high quality content. This way, you increase its value in the eyes of webmaster buyers...
