What the Heck is Pinterest????

I am hearing a lot about Pinterest. How it is helping people earn from Amazon and driving traffic. But when I went there, I was asked to request an invitation. I requested one and now still waiting for almost a month now.
I want to know about what exactly is Pinterest? Is it like Digg or Stumbleupon or something different.
Also can anyone please give me an invitation? I am waiting for one for a long time.

    It's actually pretty cool, I just started messing around with it about a week ago. You basically create these picture boards in various interests. And you can pin these pictures pretty much from any website right into your Pinterest Profile board.
