What's the Best Method to Post a Sample of Our Ebook?

On the site for our book, I have a "free sample" page that allows the potential customer the opportunity to view a sampling of the book.

While having some people review this page (located at movethechains.webs (dot)com/freesample.htm), I've gotten some feedback that I should modify it.

It was suggested that:

1. I'm offering too much of the book for free, and
2. It would be better if I put the text in html on the page itself, instead of embedding a DocStoc frame in the page, as it is now.

What is your opinion? Thanks in advance for your time.

    Great site and Great product.

I think you could give less of the book, but the suggestion about html on the page is probably for SEO purposes.

If anything, I would suggest having a smaller html excerpt (maybe the intro, or a selected 500 words that are also keyword rich) and then build a list offering this full sample 20 page pdf if they sign up for emails, instead of just letting them openly read it. I don't see where you are building a list anywhere on this site.

    Everything else looks great.

    Good Luck!

I really like the idea about grabbing email addresses.

The problem is, in my industry, having that kind of contact with NCAA athletes is a murky area to operate in.

That's the one thing that makes my niche a little challenging.

If you have any additional ideas, I'm all ears, I mean, eyes.

Thanks for mentioning SEO, I need to go back and strategically insert some key words. Thanks.

I gotcha, maybe if you are only sending them reminders about your site and product it would be okay. For example, if you decide to add a monthly article section (for SEO of course), you can send reminders when you update it. (And of course a reminder that they need your book!)

Don't send any Paypal bribes for them signing to your favorite team.

Generally I think you shouldn't put up more than 25% of your work - this goes for eBooks or anything being published.

I wouldn't offer anything for free. Put up a strong sales letter page, alot of traffic, and an email capturing system that will get people to buy. Go hard with your marketing.

Randall - thanks for taking time to respond. As I mentioned, with my product, there will be NCAA athletes involved, and I don't want to put their eligibility at-risk by displaying that I'm obtaining their email addresses.

Furthermore, it could possibly hurt my agencies standing with the NCAA.

Don't get me wrong, I really understand the value of capturing email addresses, I just don't want to risk it, so I'm very apprehensive about that approach.

I definitely plan on "going hard" with my marketing, for sure.

BChez - I know that I'd be only using it to send information about products, however I wouldn't have any way to prove to the NCAA, or the student-athlete's school that I'm only using using those email addresses for that reason.

I think I'm going to roll with posting about 15% of the book in html.

I will take down the DocStoc embed.

Might anyone know of a site that provides a good example of how to format the "sample" page?

In the meantime, I'll look through some Internet Marketing pages in search of an example to follow. Thanks again.

...as I browse through product pages from my Clickbank account, I've noticed two things:

    1. Most products have one long main page where all the information. Perhaps I should eliminate having a "sample" page, and just put a couple excerpts on the main sales page.

    2. Most (actually all) of the pages I've browsed this morning have a "Money Back Guarantee." I may have to add one of those. I assume those give the potential customer confidence in purchasing your product.

I think it could be a good idea to have more information about what the book covers. You go into that in your kindle page but don't copy/paste that to put on your web page as it's considered amazon property. You'd have to write it in different words.

Also, for the kindle page you have you can add in some tags at bottom as that can help with ranking and when people search amazon using certain phrases. The cover looks good as well as the web page.

I don't think you need to advertise a MBG for your product, IMO. I think that's a sales tool for people with items where sellers have flooded the market with shady products in that niche (IM, Weight Loss etc) and buyers are weary to buy anything in that topic without it. There are a few IMers on here who never offer a MBG.

I think you can eliminate the sample page altogether, but you might want to test it, or at least keep your eye on the stats before committing to dump it. Another stat to consider is how much of your traffic is coming from the docstoc results in search.

Hi Debbie! The info on the Kindle page isn't the same as what's on , is it?

So you think I need to add more bulletpoints on my page in regards to what the book covers? I have 11 bulletpoints, I actually thought I went overkill on what it covers.

Think I should add more, huh? Thanks for the feedback.
