I'm curious what people value in an upsell since they are so rampant these days. Every one has them, but a lot of them suck. I've seen some good ones, and some terrible ones.

What would you spend $200 bucks on?

In case you find this question difficult to answer, think of it like this...

What have you personally spent $200 bucks on in an upsell situation?

Your question is so damn vague.

      Lol, its pretty simple.

What would you spend your money on if the upsell was priced around $200 bucks. What would you value buying?

I would spend $200 - I'm assuming you mean $197 USD :-P - on something that would enhance my results.

I don't tend to "trust" Clickbank products though.. I've been burned too often by Clickbank vendors.

Still, not having an upsell is silly from the point of view of the seller. People are in a buying state by the time they get the offer put infront of them. They just bought a product in that niche, and now you're offering them a way to "do it better".

Why wouldn't they spend the $200?

    Cheers,

Well, here's a simple answer: I'd buy something that I considered worth my $200.

(You realize how open ended your question is, right?)

      Yeah! That was the idea.

Looking to get a general idea of what people would spend $200 bucks on.

Lets ask another way though since this seems too difficult for peeps to answer.

What have you personally spent $200 on in the past in an upsell scenario. (aka $197) lol

It IS a very open ended question because the difference between markets and the value expectation in those different markets is HUGE.

I could purchase a $197 upsell on a forex trading product that is ONE single video that shows me how to do some ninja trick that makes me a whole ton of money. I would be very happy to pay for that.

On the flip side of the coin if I were being sold a set of 50 Wordpress tutorial videos for $197 I would be very reluctant to buy.

One upsell has 50 times more videos than the other but it doesn't mean anything.

As another poster said above, I would happily buy anything that I believe is worth a lot more than $200 to me. If I were walking down the street and saw a guy selling $10 bills for $5 each, I would happily sit there buying them all day long. The same goes for any type of product. Make them an offer that they can't refuse. Stack the value so it outweighs their investment.

The other important thing you need to keep in mind when doing upsells is that the upsell product is VERY closely related to the original product. It should be something that helps you use the original product better or faster -- NOT something that is needed to use the original product.

When I see someone trying to think of upsell products to create because "everyone has them" it worries me. Who cares what anyone else is doing. If you don't truly have something worthwhile to offer as an upsell then don't offer one. This business is NOT about squeezing every last dollar out of your customers -- it';s about helping them achieve their desired outcome. Those who just go after the money grab don't last very long in this business.

Actually WillR, think of this as a marketplace survey.

I'm curious to see what others value and would be willing to spend $200 duckets on.

Its open ended for a reason. Upsells come in all shapes in sizes.

But lets assume this is in the IM niche and the upsell compliments the product.

What do YOU want in an upsell with an IM product. (or do you want one at all?) Could be ANYTHING, use your imagination, perhaps you could just share from personal experience about what you've bought.

I have purchased one time offers that have included videos, I have purchased one time offers that have been Wordpress themes and plugins, I have purchased one time offers that have been graphics packs.

I have also turned down a whole lot more one time offers that were also made up of videos, graphics packs, and Wordpress themes and plugins.

The point is it's not the actual product that determines the value for me but the relevancy of the one time offer product to the original product and how much that product is going to help you in using the original product. To me, the value in a one time offer is not whether it is x amount of videos, graphics, whatever -- the value is in what that product or information is worth to me at that time.

If a whole lot of people say to you they have purchased a Wordpress theme as a one time offer before then you will think creating a Wordpress theme is what you should do for your one time offer. But it's not that easy and that's why this thread is very open ended. You could go ahead and create the best Wordpress theme and offer that as a one time offer to your product but it doesn't mean it is going to sell well.

If the original product is great quality, and the upsell adds a lot of value...Sure, I'd consider spending $200...really depends on the product though

Lots of good answers here gentlemen.

I think Will actually broke it down pretty solid. Something that adds more value to the offer you already got. Or helps you use it better/faster.

I have personally bought webinar style coaching for like $197. Can't really think of much else I have actually dropped $200 on without flinching.

OFFTOPIC: I tend to see the number 7 ($197) on each offer I ever see. Have it become like a "thing" in IM or is it simply because it is normal in the US?

In Europe we always end the offers with either 9 or 5. Example 299,- and 395,- I mean what is the trick? We never use 7 here so I was a bit surprised when I first started to see offers in IM.
