What Would You Do Next?

Hello;

I own and operate a site that reports specialized news from different continents in their native languages that I then translate into English.

My site has been up and running for 20 months. I have 100,000 visitors per month. I get 50 to 57 new signups daily. My site currently earns between $120 - $150 per month from strictly Adsense revenue.

I have not done any 'paid' advertising for my site at all.

Questions:

1. How can I break through this platform to a new level of more visitors and larger revenue?

2. I am considering adding a 'paid only' classified ad section. Would that be a smart move?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

May I also ask that you please not bombard me 'buy this or that product' as I am not interested. I am serious about taking my business to the next level though.

Thank you so very much.

Lode

You have an actual mailing list?

Have you put ads on emails going out to this list?

Are the news posts automated? As the content isn't that good really. First post I looked at on the Europe page said 'Great Brittan' instead of 'Great Britain'

Like Jill said, get a list and get emails out.

Thanks to all of you for your responses.

No, all my posts I write myself thus the typos (although that should not be an excuse) and I thank you for bringing that to my attention.

(I do run a spellchecker but that doesn't seem to catch all the typos).

No, I have not sent any ads to the email list at all not knowing why people sign up to my site since I post various articles from around the world.

However I can certainly modify this and begin tracking signed up readers differently.

I gather I'll look into how I can do this before embarking on another money venue.

Thank you very much for your support

      Hi Lodely,

im not trying to sell you anything here, matter of fact I'm gonna give you something no charge; a site audit & SEO diagnosis. If you want more traffic fix the following:

You don't have a meta description or meta keywords registering for your homepage. Also, all of your post headings are truncated to <h2> headings or less, resulting in zero <h1> tags for your homepage(<h1>'s are very important as are the meta keywords and description). Also, of the 69 current images on your homepage, there isn't a single one with an ALT description. Your text to HTML ratio is 18.56% which isn't too bad, but could be better with more text. You also have 5 Iframes employed on the homepage and I do detect some flash as well.

No microformats, no geo meta tags no dublin core. These 3 aren't major, but the previous paragraph contains some elements you desperately need to fix. I honestly can't imagine how you've managed to get the traffic you already have with your site missing the basic core elements of search engine optimization.

If you fix the description, the keywords and the H1 tags, you'll see a substantial increase in traffic.

With 50+ new subscribers a day you probably have a sizable list. You might wanna
consider some kind of premium membership that would contain exclusive content,
like news in video form, or special reports on, lets say, hot travel destinations or
    something like that.

You should know your subscribers the best, think about what they want and would be
willing to pay to get it, then give it to them.

      Thank you once again.

I truly do appreciate the advice you are giving me.

      1. subscribers:
I currently have 18,858 signups. I have not send out a single email to any one of them. I have been toying with incorporating video news but don't know where I can get a video template that will daily 'auto' update videos of my chosen categories.

      2. SEO:
I am not an internet guru, just someone with a passion to write about what's going on in the world, even though I am not a professional writer. My background believe it or not is hotel and restaurant management ... far removed from anything to do with the internet.

So forgive me when I tell you that most of the things you mentioned, I don't understand, although I do know about <H1> and <Alt> tags, I know nothing about the last three things you mentioned.

I have been getting my traffic doing the following:

I created two additional sites (one celebrity based and one to generate links) that are updated automatically with the appropriate articles whenever I write a new post. The purpose for these sites is not to make money but to generate backlinks.

I have a Facebook, Google + and Twitter page as well as several other blogs (blogger.com, tumblr, Buzz, etc), that are automatically notified and updated with new posts.

I am at link exchange sites such as LinkedIn.

I have a press release page and I have several RSS feeds at several RSS directories.

That's really it. Those additional sites, blogs and RSS feeds have resulted in my articles being referenced by over 200 independently owned sites and a few very large internet sites, including Huffington Post, China Star and ABC News.

I'll have to research about your SEO recommendations to know what I need to do.

      I certainly appreciate your advice.

      Thank you so much

I would say since you have a list, send them an email thanking them for signing up. Then ask them if is anything else they would like to see on the site.

You will then know how to improve the site.

Adding a page for paid Classified is a good option but only when you have good pagerank and traffic which I guess you already have.
