Publish Now vs Scheduled posts

I'm working on a couple sites right now and i always want to Publish content right away. Its just a bad habit i think because Wordpress's Blue Publish button is so easy to press. But im coming to realize maybe spacing out the publishing schedule might be a good practice. It could increase the number of uniques from Twitter and Facebook I think.

What works best for you?

I like to provide information at predictable times.

No one is paying exclusive attention to your web content. Also, I always work with the mindset that people are creature of habit - to which you might agree.

If I can provide content to my subscribers/followers/viewers/... etc ... in a scheduled and predictable format, then they can start to form a habit of viewing my content at particular times of their day. And, I don't know about you, but I don't bother checking to see if new content is up or not all that often.. I just expect it to be there... and if it's not I lose interest.

    That being said...

If you're posting multiple times per day, perhaps it would be easier on you (and/or your outsourcing budget) to build up a small buffer of posts that are ready to go so you have time to live your life one in a while. :-P

    Cheers,
    -Adrian.

I also used to publish blog posts right away; now I'm aiming for having 3 blog posts lined up for publishing and I post them twice a week. I takes pressure off my writing work because I don't have to write with a tight deadline in mind and should something unexpected happen, I can rest assured I have about 10 days before I have to worry about a new blog post.

I have about two months worth of posts scheduled so I can go on vacation and not worry about the site for a while.

Is there some kind of wordpress plugin or feature that allows you to write posts in advance and then it automatically publishes them on your specified date? like scheduled posts?

Hey man, this feature is natively built into wordpress Where it says publish now simply hit the button and you can choose a time and a date for the exact schedule. The publish button now changes to a "Schedule" button.

        Hope this answered your question

Wow I feel really stupid lol. To stay on topic I think scheduling posts is a great idea. It would allow you to write/schedule regular posts for months in advance and save you a lot of hassle. You could also use rss or scheduling with a program like hootsuite to automate the whole process hands free. Each time you post on your wordpress blog your facebook and twitter would be updated.

Yes, this is a good idea. Having a backlog means you can take weeks off when really busy and not worry about keeping your site updated.

Ideally one should just write a post a day when possible and schedule it for whatever your posting schedule is. I don't think you should be posting every day on most sites, since that just means each individual post isn't consumed as much as it could be.

I prefer the "Publish now" but as it was mentioned above, when you are about to leave for some time and you don't want to post "I am on vacations, keep in touch" -which doesn't look good- , schedule it.. And always keep something back like a backup plan

I got scheduled posts for around one month or so.

It's great to keep Google busy with constant content updates.

I agree, it is good practice to schedule posts regularly. For me, there are times when I write just 1 article in a week, and other times 5 articles per week. Scheduling works well for me because all articles appear published on a regular basis.

Scheduled posts is better than publishing now. Is easier since you don't have to feel as rushed to make those posts and you can take the time you need to write your contents as much as needed.

As a reader, I treat reading posts like new episodes for a tv show since they usually come out once or twice a week at the same day and time. This is kind of the same as a writer since if you make your posts at your usual time/day, the readers would get used to it and knows when you usually update your site.

Plus it just looks better overall since it seems like you are constantly and consistently updating it.

Its best to have one post added every few days. So that it seems natural to google.

Does a scheduled post ping services upon actual publication, or just ping manually when you get a chance?

I run scheduled posts usually 5-10 weeks in advance so most of my sites can run on auto-pilot with little to no upkeep needed

I prefer a scheduled approach. My niche readers have been told a new piece of content comes every five days, and I like to stick to that schedule. So I'm always a few pieces of content ahead to be safe.

    Hi everyone,
I'm looking at scheduling posts now, as I was always publishing them straight away but I like the idea of having a backlog and not having to panic! But I was just wondering - when do you schedule your articles to appear? Is there a good day/time of day to do this? And how many posts do you schedule to appear in one week?
    Thanks.

Definitely schedule your posts to publish regularly. Spurts of content don't keep the search engine's attention like consistently new content.
