How to convert a website into Mobile

HI,

I have a website that i would like to make mobile version for.

I have read online about mobile converters but i'm not sure how they will work?
Has anyone used them?

What is the average price to create a mobile site say based on a 15 page website? Does it work that way?

Cheer

    Hey there Jeremy,

This might be the wrong forum for a "mobile" question, but since it's also related to your website as it is now - who knows.. haha..

    Here's my take:

Desktop users have different needs than mobile users. Simply copying your website into a mobile-supported format won't really do you any favours in my opinion.

    For example...

If I ran a website for a popular restaurant I would fill my that website with all of the information my users could possibly want. Menu, pricing, location, specials, company background... etc

On the flip side, when it came to mobile visitors, I wouldn't want them to have to sift through all that junk when what I know they're really looking for is probably just how to find me or how to get in touch.

I wouldn't bother trying to go through all of a menu on my phone.. I just want a quick answer to a question I have.

One other thing is interface.. That little arrow you have floating on your screen is quite powerful because it's also quite accurate. Your fingers ("fat" or not) don't tend to be quite as reliable.

The interface for your mobile site should reflect this.

Some of the mobile scripts are quite detailed and allow you to redirect visitors from only particular devices or operating systems or browsers to the mobile site. As an example, you might send smartphone users to the "mobile" site, while still sending tablet users to your desktop site. (I'm sure that mobile sites are every bit as ugly on a tablet as they are on a desktop.. haha)

Finally.. any references to a "click" should be replaced with "tap" instead, in my opinion. That's a more subtle distinction, though.

    Cheers,
    -Adrian

  • I would recommend the WordPress DotMobi Theme, you can find it at Themeforest for like $15, that's the cheapest way. You can also check out dudamobile, it is REALLY EASY to convert any site to mobile, and the ads version is free. Otherwise it's like $9 a month or something, but they do have some cool features built in.
