Are you using OTO's in your marketing?

Hey guys,

I'm curious to see the numbers on this now. I know several years ago, one time offers were not seen as often as they are today. I think many marketers have caught on to the fact that they can make a lot of money if they are implemented right.

So do you use them in your marketing? If you don't I would love to hear your reasons why.

One of the reasons I get turned off by some OTO's is because they just resemble a "me too" marketing tactic. It seems like there are many OTO's that are just a collection of resale rights that someone threw up there to see if they could make some money.

Somewhat along these same lines is when there is a good offer, but there is no reason why it's a lower price this one time. It's more of a "Hey, I heard this works so here's my product for a lower price, just this once." I like seeing why someone is offering a discount, but maybe that's just me.

I wrote about OTO's a while back. Here's how I view them and think everyone is using them in the wrong manner. They are still worth using (OTO's) but it's the placement that is the issue...

    That's good advice Mike.

So do you think some of the well-known marketers can get away with using OTO's the way they do because everyone knows and trusts them?

If I'm remembering correctly, didn't Mike Filsaime really successfully use OTO's back when nobody knew who he was? Or are you thinking he would have got a few more conversions if he would have tried waiting on the offer for awhile?

Maybe it doesn't work on you, but based on my own results with a similar offer, it does work.

I'm still averaging around 4% of people buying either the OTO or the Downsell for my 404 Secrets site.

I wrote that OTO in 2006.

      Thanks for the reply Jason,

If there's one thing that I am learning more than anything else, it's that I am not the market. I think one of the problems I have is projecting how I feel about certain things instead of finding out how the market feels about them.

I guess the fact is that new people are coming on to the scene everyday, so what may seem old to some is new to others.

        You're not alone.

I think what happens is that because you know so much from being around "it" for
a while and being in here for a while, you kind of become immune to it and sometimes
        even jaded.

Not that you do this at all, but I laugh at all the threads and posts that come from
so called marketers bitching and moaning about being marketed to.

I don't see anything wrong with them. (OTOs)

I used to offer an upsell to my coaching program, which was just another form of an OTO,
and around 28% took it. This was when I charged a one off $297 for the coaching, then the upsell was another $97.

I have since converted my coaching to continuity with low barrier to entry and have
offered the upsell as a free bonus.

I may end up going back to the upsell soon.

It really all depends and the only way you'll know for sure if it works for you is if you try it.

I would have made A LOT LESS if I didn't use OTOs all this time.

        Cheers,
        Jason

Yes, I use OTO's and they convert right about 10% to 15% depending upon the primary product but they are very targeted to exactly what I'm selling and are unique products that I've created.

          Cheers,

I think it all comes down to how well you can connect the OTO to whatever you are selling. If it isn't something that builds and expands on what someone wants, it can come off a bit lame.

If it is something the person really does need (based on what they already bought) it makes sense to offer a discount right at that time. They can see it as a big win for them, heck you both win!

Hey Dean those are some good conversion rates, 10-15% is excellent as far as I know.

And this would be 10-15% of people that are opting in for something free? Or are you doing
a paid signup on the front, then a higher priced OTO?

Anyone found a unique way to use OTO's that isn't widely known? I'm always into trying new things in my marketing.
