Newbie Question - Need help finding a micro niche

Hello everyone. I'm a newbie to the forum and new to Internet marketing, so please be patient. I am looking for help in identifying a micro niche for my first affiliate site and am having difficulty. I've been stuck in the research phase for about two weeks and would like suggestions on how to move forward. I am interested in finding a micro niche in the health and wellness area, but every niche I've researched is too broad and has too much competition (over 50,000 pages using Google search tool). I've used the Google Insights and Google Trends tool to identify niche markets, but how do I drill down further? For example, I was looking into "natural anxiety solutions" and "natural remedies for type 2 diabetics" but competition is too high. Also looked into some of the Clickbank products like "yeast infection treatment for women," "tinnitus treatment", "acne treatment for women," post pregnancy weight loss," and "stomach fat loss." All yield strong search volume but very high competition. Is there a user friendly tool that can help me identify a less competitive micro niche. Just looking for identify a targeted niche and analyze competition. Once I identify a niche, I am looking to market my site through SEO and article marketing. My final question: When starting out, which affiliate network is the best way to start? I've looked at Clickbank, Amazon, Commission Junction, Market Health. Are clickbank products a good way to start or are they over-saturated? Any advice would be appreciated.

I had the same problem..however, my advice would be go for a decent product $30 commission in weight loss, relationship or making money..the big three and build a decent site around the product and add content daily. It takes time..but if you keep adding and advertising your site...use Fiverr as well...the traffic will come and eventually within a couple of months or maybe three..you could easily be making 3 sales a day...$90! not too shabby!...I can help if you are interested.

Tony gave you great advice. :-)

    longtail62400, here's my advice FWIW.

    1. Choose three to five products you LOVE, and which you'd recommend to your friends. All the products need to be in the same area: weight loss, getting your ex back etc.

    2. Forget the competition. Who cares? If you find a teeny tiny niche you'll have low traffic and teeny tiny sales.

Focus on marketing the heck out of what you LOVE, and you'll make sales, no matter what the competition.

    3. Now you've got your products, understand your audience. Go to forums where they hang out. Find out what their fears and hopes are.

Become a member of at least one forum, and interact there. The more you can get into your audience's mindset the better.

    4. Create a site/ blog and review each of your products. Make the reviews honest and heartfelt.

    5. Create a list, and add some messages to an autoresponder. You could create a mini course related to your products, or create a freebie of some kind.

    These are the basic steps.

Once you've completed them, market your site and products.

Competition? Heh. The more the better. It shows that people are spending money in an area -- and they'll keep spending money.

Hot products like Mike Geary's "Six Pack Abs" have been selling for years. He makes a million dollars a month. Every month. Someone's making his sales. (A lot of someones :-).)

Stop worrying about the competition, and get down to work. COMPETE!

    You'll succeed.

    Cheers

If competition scares you, then stay away from health market. Or better, overcome your fear

If you'll be competing in health market, then you need to think out of the box especially when it comes to keyword research.

I recommend you listen to what people are talking about. Forums, sites of health magazines, sites of celebrity doctors (know Dr. Oz, right?) are great places for a start. Just be aware of the "spoken language". Great keywords may come from this practice.

    Cheers.

a great way to starting out is promoting physical products through Amazon affiliates.

Just go ahead and check out the best seller and apply some keyword techniques and you will be able to rank for many keywords without even having to do much backlinking.

PM if you have more questions, I would be more than glad to help you out.

Actually, I think you should absolutely go for lower competition micro niches that still have enough monthly search volume because for a newbie, it is NOT that easy to compete when you don't know how and no one will really tell you exactly what they do.

Also, any time I've ever posted something on here about getting high Google ranking for a competitive niche like weight loss, health, diet, internet marketing, make money online, dating or any other very competitive niche, the most experienced marketers on here will post that it is impossible. That tells me that it is not as easy as many would lead you to believe.

However, you can find micro niches and then promote them, get one going and then add another.

Now, back to your original question about HOW to find good micro niches, keep doing what you are doing and in the niches you may want, take the domain name and put it in the website spot in the free Google keyword tool to see what keywords Google is ranking those sites for.

Those may still be too competitive BUT they can give you ideas you wouldn't have thought of for other keywords and then you can check those as they are or add a few words to it like "how to", "get rid of", "how to get rid of", "cure for", "help with" etc.
