Best methods of driving targeted traffic to an affiliate website

I am currently in position 5 in Google for my keyphrase, which is definitely a 'buying' keyphrase.

I have made a few sales over the past couple of weeks, but I still need to generate more traffic to my site. Other than SEO what methods do you use to boost targeted traffic?

It really depends on the traffic methods you enjoy the most. I use Web2.0, article directories, press releases, contextual links etc. The key is to diversify.

That's incredible. Do you have an e-mail list of contacts to achieve this? i.e you write an article, tell them about it and they post it on their website/blog

Yes, I have a list of outlets which regularly publish my articles. Whenever I produce a new article, these are announced through autoresponders, direct email, RSS feeds, fax, and sometimes by telephone or postal mail. The resulting traffic generated is highly targeted and consistently convertible, although none of my websites have ever ranked above the murky depths in the SERPs due to entrenched keyword competition.

With the exception of press releases, I've tried all these methods. Getting traffic is difficult, but I find targeted traffic even more challenging.

SEO seems to be hands down the best method because you know the people coming to your site from this source are interested in buying. However, I don't want to rely on this source too much and I am trying to find good alternatives

For example, say your keyphrase is "best blenders". You create an affiliate website for Amazon by writing some reviews etc. With good on and off page SEO you can get to page 1 in Google and know that visitors coming to your site ffrom this source are interested in buying because "best blenders" is a good buying keyphrase.

If I built a site like this after reaching page 1 in Google, I would then look at joining forums in the food/cooking niche. However, the issue I have is many of these forums don't allow links to advertise/promote products on external websites either in the post or signature. Does anyone else find this?

Guest blogging is another good method, but if you post an article on a blog related to 'blenders' such as food/cooking/recipe sites, the chances of someone reading your post and thinking "Oh actually I do need a blender" and then visit your site is very remote.

I've heard the phrase "the money is in the list", which I totally agree with for your own products or larger sites, but would it really work for a micro niche website for blenders. Surely, a person will come to your site, decide to click on one of your links to Amazon and then decide to buy or not. They probably wouldn't be interested in coming back unless they needed a new blender, surely?

I've made a few sales with my affiliate site, and it is converting well but getting targeted traffic to boost sales is the issue. I have also tried social media and posted a couple of videos on Youtube.

Some of my thoughts here might be totally wrong, but I am here to learn so any feedback would be greatly received

      P.S I don't have a site about blenders

Position 1 gets the most of the traffic, since you're in position 5 you get around only 10% of the traffic that the keyword actually gets! Build more quality backlinks to move up the position of the keyword!!

Other than paid traffic, you have to do more diversified SEO and focus on quality of your backlinks.

You can't get decent traffic at position 5. You have to try to get it up to 1-3 for more traffic. Ideally, you would want to be the No. 1 spot.

In general, No.1 spot received more than 30% of the total traffic. No.5 is about 5-7%

Aim for the top and all the best.

agree. Potential buyers want reviews and 'real' experiences with the products they are thinking of purchasing.

Videos are quick to rank and have a high PR value

I have created a video on youtube with a link to my site, but will look at creating product review videos with links to Amazon. Do you optimize your videos with keywords in the title and description as well as the product name?

I would think if you just labelled them with the product name, it wouldn't get much attention unless you knew there were a good number of monthly searches for it in Google

Without giving too much away, don't stuff the title and descriptions/tags with too many keywords just your targeted keyword/s. Also submit your vids to high PR sites like daily motion. There's a little fine tuning that can really put you in front almost instantly.

in your case article submission will do better job if the keyword phrase is relevant. Also you can use professional press releases which in my opinion will work better in your case.

Wow... Depends on your niche?! If it's some kind of special, interesting product I would certainly launch a press-release ..

There are many ways to drive traffic:

Creating videos to promote it and/or squeeze page to capture their name and email address first then direct them to the offer page.. Writing a review on that product and post it on your own website/blog does help also.

Remember to submit your review to article directories..

    Hope this help,
    Jeremiah

I drove most of my traffic from youtube and from article marketing. I use Article Marketing Robot (AMR) to submit my articles automatically to different websites and save a lot of time. Currently, I am interested to try Pinterest for traffic generation. Many warriors say that it is easy to create viral traffic if you can come up with an interesting picture that is repin many times by the others.
