Pinterest link to site first or direct to product?

So for all you Pinterest marketers out there - I was wondering what your thoughts are. I could simply pin a direct link to a product through a cloaked affiliate link or set up a website with my affiliate links and send people to that first. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I think you would have more luck with option #2. I read an article that says (and who knows if it's true) that Pinterest is taking out direct Amazon links and replacing it with their own affiliate links. Plus, I just think it looks more professional and people will hang out and look around and are more likely to buy.

Depends on your model but why not get them back to your site to see what other items you sale(affiliate)?

Think about getting the person back to your site and about the opportunity of doing more transactions. The one in done thing (option 1) is great for a quick sale.

Here's a link talking about affiliate marketing and Pinterest.

You want to link to your site first.

While Pinterest has never replaced an affiliate link with their own, they did add their affiliate links to those which did not have an affiliate link attached to them. They stopped doing this a while back.

Within the past few days, however, folks started noticing affiliate links to Amazon.com are stripped altogether. Meaning, if you add your Amazon affiliate link direct to a pin and then click through that pin to Amazon you won't receive any credit. Your affiliate ID markers will have been completely stripped away. Using URL shorteners and cloaking tools didn't seem to help.

So you have to pin to your site then to Amazon.

Ok this just confirms what I was thinking - send them to my site first. I like that it gives me more control over the visitor rather than waiting to see what Pinterest does next.

    Thanks all!
