Hi fellow warriors,

Should links for follow up emails be cloaked? What is the best way to do it? What is the main reason to cloak links in emails?

I really appreciate your advice.

Thanks in advance.

David Loi

Depends... if these are affiliate links, fo sho.

I use Pretty Links Lite plugin for WP. This way I not only cloak the links but also brand my own site every time I send an email. Plus some email systems (eg iContact) really don't like you using all the budurls and other shorteners.

If your site is Wordpress based, I like WPStealth. I think it looks more professional to have a link like:
    http://www.mysite.com/DavidLoi
than to have a link that looks like:
    http://www.davidloissite.co.au/affil...lliateNickname
    or like:
    http://www.bit.ly/JimsDavidLoiAffiliate

(NOTE:As far as I know no link above is a real link and therefore is not an affiliate link.)

Do you see what I mean?

In an AR series, I like to cloak, because it is additional advertising for your site, and a cloaked link like the first one helps build trust. Besides, you can change what the cloak redirects to without having to edit your AR series thus saving you time.

    Hope this helps,

    Jim

    Hi

I'm just starting out. I'm promoting with a friends email list and twitter.

What if your just starting and do not have an autoresponmder and are using free websites like blogger?

I just found out that using bit.ly with clickbank is not good to use in emails.

It's just that alot of people will not click on an obvious affliate link, or a link from a free website. like soanso.blogspot.com

So whats a person to do?

Any help would greatly be appreciated

I'm assuming you're talking about cloaking affiliate links. Because if you were offering a product from your website, you probably wouldn't have created this thread.

I would hide the affiliate link with your very own website. Don't use a URL shortener like Tinyurl or "Bit.ly".
