What PR's can be beat w/ EMD?

I'm doing a lot of keyword research right now and have been using the method of using the AdWords Keyword Tool, Namecheap to search for EMDs, and Google Search w/ SEOQuake to view PRs of competing pages. In a scenario where the top 10 pages are a mix of 2-6 PRs, is it feasible to beat them with an EMD? These sites do not have an EMD and only a few are targeting the keyword specifically.

A lot more information than what you're providing here would be needed for anyone to give you any sort of educated guess... but in the end it would still be just a "guess".

PR is not the only factor which matters when researching competition. In fact, to me, it doesn't even really matter anymore. It's just an 'indication' that I may have to work a bit harder, and that it may take a little bit longer to rank in the top 3 if the results are full of high PR pages (and even that's not always true).

If I have an EMD (pure EMD, no hyphens or stop words etc), then I consider that to be an advantage and I don't care who's on top. I just go for it. If you do your on-page and off-page SEO right, there's no reason you can't rank for the keyword(s) you're looking to rank for, especially with an EMD. It's just a matter of time.

This might get a better response in the SEO section of the forum.

But .. it's pretty difficult to give an answer since there's so many factors at work here. It would just be a guess at the very best.

Especially since PR isn't updated frequently a page in reality may not be near the PR that it's displaying.

Also PR only accounts for a small percentage of the overall ranking factors.

And I can well see in the future that EMD's won't be as much of an effective ranking factor as they are right now. (based on statements from Matt Cutts etc).

Well maybe I'm still retarded about this but I've been learning as much as I can. What are the main factors that determine the competition's ranking strength besides PR? # and quality of backlinks, age, content relevancy? Which would you say are likely the strongest ranking factors?

Backlinks to page. Forget about PR.
