How Much $$ To Host A Podcast?

If you we're going to pay someone to host a podcast how much would you pay them.

I have two podcasts (episodes are 1/2 hour long) that I need hosted. I was going to float $25 per episode.

The host will only have to host. I'll handle getting guests, post production, and uploading to the web.

Do you think $25 per episode ($50/hr) is a fair price?

As long as the host is happy with it, then I see no problem with it But yeah, $25 is good for half hour of work.

    Hi Kevin:

Hope all is well. As a former radio disc-jockey and public speaker you have my attention. A couple of questions that need to be better defined please:
When you say host do you mean:
Somebody that is doing reading of pre-written copy
Somebody that has to research and interview the guests
How often would you have them work?

The last question is important because if the pay scale is at or a bit under value but you can get them constant work for you and or contacts of yours it would help you get a more experienced person.

Please feel free to email me with complete details. I don't mean give away any secrets so somebody takes your idea. If the show is on internet marketing tell me it is on fishing or rock and roll. The info I need is not the subject (as long as it is legal and ethical) but time involved, how often, what is expected, deadlines, etc.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.

    All the best!

A Podcast is nothing more than an .xml file.. So I am a little confused by your post unless we talking about 2 different things here. If I setup podcast to be on iTunes all I need is a .xml file pretty much like an rss feed..

I think what needs to be clarified is if you are talking about a host for your show, or a host to serve your .mp3 files.

To host a podcast / talk show means different things to different people.

Here are a few questions that you have to determine before you can set a price for hosting.

Will the host also be the producer / editor of the show, that is to say will the host need to use their own studio to do the podcast and make it in a form that can be uploaded, music, breaks etc.

Or are you looking for someone to interview you in your own podcast / show?

Knowing what kind of skills and effort the host will have to provide makes it easier for you to select the right candidate of the job.

Call your local radio station and find one of the part time worker to help you out making your show, many times they have the skills and just not the name that pays the big bucks in radio.

If its a large station, you can talk with the production folks that work creating shows and doing all the editing and creative work for the stations promotion, and for their advertisers.

See if you have a college and univeristy in your area that has a broadcast services department, many times they need projects to submit for their class showing their ability to edit, interview, produce and time and back time their productions accurately down to the second.

College and university student would be able to help you with more than hosting if you needed their input, and many of them would work for pizza and beer
