Giving beta testers a free copy of the software when it's complete would definitely work, or giving them a few months free. It depends on the software you're making though.

      This.

Beta testers are NOT guinea pigs who work with your creation, and help improving it, and then you can forget them. Give them some credit, a free full working copy of whatever it is you made.

Give them the free copy of software for lifetime because they are the ones that help you to identify the errors etc.

Generally, you should give the beta testers a free copy of the finished software and of course any updates. If you treat then right, they will probably be there for you to test major updates as well and will be devoted users.

thanks everyone for replying. I thought about giving them free lifetime use and only thing that needs to be paid for is text ordering. Seems fair deal?

soft is for contextual link building. It has option to order text directly from writers. You write title, description etc and writer starts working on it

So I'm guessing that without text ordering, the system is pretty useless, right?

Usually you can promise them a free version of the finished product and the promise to welcome input in shaping the product. Also you can promise $100 bounty for bugs found ;-)

I have been doing beta testing for years. Got a bunch of free programs. Sadly, many are zero use. They crash constantly - due to memory issues. Also, they do not work on all systems - typically run fine on XP, but not on vista or win 7 anyway. I can use emulator mode in win 7 to run programs.

Biggest problem I see is that it takes hours of my time to test some POS program. Also the pay sux! It takes time to write bug reports that detail how I got each error.

Beta testers are definitely going to want something to make it worth their time so a free product or trial is usually the best way to go.

the features of our monthly subscription based software include

    1) you will receive 3-12(based on plan)(more sites can be added for beta guys) verified 3rd party websites URLs (with a min PR of 2) that welcome 3rd party general content
these sites will be a mix of
    free hosts
    blog hosts
    website builders
    press release/article sites
    bookmark sites

    2) monthly credits that can be reedemed for written articles (and in the future other services, hopefully you can help us figure that out
NOTE: you can choose to write your own articles, if you do not wish to buy content
    3) a firefox plugin to speed up & manage the tasks of: creating accounts, campaigns, user profiles ,ordering text, existing content
    4) we will track your content alert you if it is removed, so you can reuse your ordered content on a different site

Our hope is that with our software internet marketers can boost their contextual links with very little time & effort . Based on our trials the complete cycle for creating accounts; ordering, reviewing & posting text, and entering tracking information takes about 6 min/ website.
So with our tool you can create 10 contextual links/hour with HIGH quality text.

we also have some ideas for future features that we aren't willing to disclose just yet
