Does the TLD matter in SEO?

Hi,

Will a unique TLD like .me or .tv make ranking a site harder than if I used .com/.net/.org?

Thanks

I don't think that's a question anyone can answer with a firm rule, but -- from what others have said and my own experiences -- .com/.net/.org seem to have an easier time getting well-ranked.

The .me can work as a domain name people will remember, if your domain is something that could be followed by the word, "me."

And, all in all, I think a website with great content will outrank one with garbage on it, regardless of the TLD.

There are a lot of variables. However, given a choice, I'd go with .com/.net/.org unless I had a specific reason for one of the others.

It doesn't have any impact on SEO.

The quality of the site and the quality of backlinks will determine how it ranks.

For sure local domain's like .ca make a difference. The main tlds like .net .org. com .info in my experience have no effect on seo. I would always try to get a .com/org/net though. Only time I would recommend another domain like .ca is if you're trying to target a certain country like Canada or UK.

It's true, there's no proof that they have impact on rankings.

However, people have always gone with .com org and .net just to be on the safe side.

It has become sort of a general practice.

There's no impact. Furthermore, almost any exact match domain is available for you to run with and build an affiliate site around.
