In this post I'm not only going to show you a simple way to get publicity, I’m going to show you how to turn this idea into an entire business!
I’m excited about this one, so let’s hop on it. I was just driving into town when I heard a news story about a website called This is why you're fat. Since I love coming up with story ideas anyone can use to create powerful press releases, I jumped on this one. It was so easy. Take a look at that web address again: This Is Why You’re Fat Now let’s convert that into a press release headline for lots of different businesses: This Is Why You’re Broke This Is Why You’re Unemployed This Is Why You’re Alone This Is Why You’re Tired This Is Why You’re Constantly Sick That is a POWERFUL press release headline. Just fill the press release with details that explain the headline. But don’t stop there. Grab the domain names that go along with your headline: ThisIsWhyYoureBroke.com ThisIsWhyYoureUnemployed.com ThisIsWhyYoureAlone.com ThisIsWhyYoureTired.com ThisIsWhyYoureConstantlySick.com Put some content on your website related to the headline. Either create an information product or have one created for you. Sell it on your website. You’ll get free publicity because of your headline and press release. You’ll drive people to your website. They’ll read your free content. They’ll buy your product. All because you have good information and you help people ease some pain they have. I’m going to keep pounding away at how powerful publicity is. How simple it can be to come up with story ideas. How much fun it can be. I’m going to keep pounding away until you take action. You’ve been warned. Now get to work on this!

Here are a few more:
This Is Why You're Divorced
This Is Why You've Been Fired This Is Why You're Not Meeting Men (Or Women) Every one of these would make a great press release headline - and a great story - and maybe even a great website and business. Jump on it! |

this is a great idea. also good for keyword ideas for adwords. most people will bid on keywords like "how to get girls", when they can dodge the competition a little bit and get some extra traffic with keywords like "why am i single".

Great post man ! I am definitely going to use that format for a headline for an advertising campaign. It seems to be an effective way to get people to click.
ex. "This is Why You're Wasting Money on (insert niche) Products" I'll try some variations of it and see how it works. Thanks for the tips! |

Paul -
I love your post and I there is one topic I would love you to talk about. That is being successful in a niche. You have made a living off of being in one area (free publicity) for most of your career and if you search you name there is page after page after page of nothing but you (which is a good thing). At any rate I'd love to hear you talk about that. Tim |

Paul using your advice I've had a huge amount of free publicity over the years including full features in the newspaper, on television.
I was also on a show that fed to 40 commercial radio stations across Australia. My spot lasted for a couple of hours and was often replayed...and they let me pitch my product at the end of the spot. I never had any luck trying to get people to go from radio to a website though (I did test it several times). The response was about 1/50th of getting them to call a telephone number. And people calling on the phone were ready to buy...when they got to the website they still had to be converted. I wonder if times have changed in the last few years. Kindest regards, Andrew Cavanagh |

TimCastleman,
Specifically what would you like to know? I'm happy to give you any information you think will help you be more successful, but I don't want to go down a road you're really not interested in. Paul |

Paul -
What I would like to know is how you went from being another guy who knew about publicity and how to use it and turned yourself into an expert and known in the field as a respected author, teacher, speaker, etc. Tim |

TimCastleman,
I can answer that in one sentence: I was willing to do what 99% of the other people were not - and still are not. Now the details. It took me many years to develop and test my new publicity system. But when I finished and knew it would work, I went at it with a vengeance. I kept sending out press releases on all the subjects I knew. I did any interview that came my way. There were days I would do 15 or 20 interviews back to back. I knew that if I stopped fanning the flames, the fire would go out. Then, I started getting speaking engagements. Lots of them. People wanted me to speak about my new publicity system. At that time, my girlfriend and I made an agreement that I would focus two years totally on my publicity system, getting out press releases, doing interviews, etc. I was often away from home speaking or being interviewed all around the world. Hundreds of speaking engagements and thousands of media interviews. Before the end of that two years, I reached what is commonly called the tipping point. People also call it "having made it", "hitting the big time", etc. And that's the way it's been ever since. But Tim, I don't want you to think for one second that I have some God-given talent that you don't have. That's not true. That's just a barrier people make up to justify why they haven't made it. What I do have is laser-focus and persistence. Everyone can have they, but most don't want to put the effort into cultivating it. One of my favorite quotes is from Dolly Parton: "If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain." It's the rare person who's willing to put up with the rain, but everyone wants the rainbow. And Thomas Edison said: "Opportunity is missed by most people because it's dressed in overalls and it looks like work." I'm proud to say that I now have it made - and have had it made for many years. I live in a beautiful home on 25 acres with a big natural pond and stream, horse barn, corrals, private guest house, beautiful gardens. And I give away more than I used to earn in my pre-"made it" days. But I'm also very quick to say that I worked darn hard for what I have. Some closing advice - pick one thing. It may be some talent or skill you have, it may be something online. It doesn't matter. Then focus all of your attention on it. Stop bouncing around from idea to idea, project to project. Set an amount of time you're going to spend on it. If during that time you see results, keep fanning the fire. If you don't see results, drop it and move on to something else. My Brooklyn Bridge adventure wasn't my first idea. Truth is, it probably was my 1,384th idea. Most of the previous ideas failed. But all those previous failures were just practice shots for the grand slam homerun I KNEW I was going to hit. If you any other information or clarification, just ask. |

Great idea! This is also ideal for keyword ideas with Google adwords. Most people will bid on common short tail keywords, when they maximize the opportunity and get some much needed traffic with long tail keywords that are more specific! Great post!
