eBay and alternatives

That's the thing that really is bad about ebay. Other than amazon there really isn't anyone who can compare to their traffic. There are sites like ubid and overstock, but like I said it's hard to get the traffic to make the sells. I used to do the ebay thing.. had great authentic products that I was selling. I was doing so well I literally planed on being able to retire in a years time and this was when i was in my early 20's. Out of the blue Ebay cancelled my account for "interacting with other accounts who have been banned" or something like that. I don't even have a clue what they were talking about until this day. This was 7-8 years ago I can't even imagine how bad the rules have gotten. I hope you find what you are looking for.

Hi, Yeah Amazon is your best bet. I also sell on eBay, and in the process of adding my products to Amazon, due to the amount of traffic they receive on a daily basis.

So for me its eBay and Amazon, both websites are visited by millions of potential buyers every single day :-)

For most products...Amazon is really your best bet. If you set up your inventory management and fulfillment correctly, you can easily do both Amazon and Ebay. In many categories, Amazon has surpassed Ebay in terms of shoppers.

eBay has gotten pretty lame IMO. I know Amazon also have a lot of annoying aspects to it but I think it's miles above eBay.

eBay wants pre-existing businesses with sales history selling at cut throat prices on eBay, they do not want small operating businesses ran by 1 person and backed by inconsistent inventory. The problem is, eBays traffic is actually low compared to what it was 8 years ago and can't compete with a proper eCommerce website with an advertising budget that is similar to what a company would be paying eBay in fee's - and with much less risk.

Right now is the perfect time to be running your own website that sells physical goods as there are a lot of consumers that stay away from eBay.

eBay can still be profitable. It is all in how you source your products and the cost you pay before listing them on eBay.

There are few alternatives to eBay that don't take fees like ecrater.com

They allow you even to make ur own store and sell for free (they charge only on getting featured). They seems to have a good ranking overall.

eBay is a big player and their fee are pretty killing for small and new members (unless you sell what is your garage)

I would advice if you have stable market on eBay in selling is to open your own website and there r different ways to drive people to your own site even from eBay.

Recently, I've talked to quite a few active sellers on eBay and they all voice their displeasure with their increased fees and poor customer service....Has eBay shot itself in the foot lately? What's going on over there? It used to be THE place for people to gravitate to. Now, it seems like they are losing market share to Amazon (no complaints here!).

I'd love to hear your take on it....

Most of are arguing about ebay with fees. Just know that amazon also has fees has well and are about the same depending if your adding pictures, etc. Find the amazon calculator and compare its about the same.

I really dislike ebay. I used to make quite good money dropshipping electronics but the fees are what killed the business in the end. Plus the "chancers" trying to scam me on big ticket items caused me some significant losses; not worth anypone's time unless you have something totally unique and in demand. Like some folks are saying above, Amazon is a good place to start. Some of the lesser known auction sites seem to be quite good, but the problem is it just doesn't get the traffic like ebay.
Probably best trying to start your own site and ranking it; in the end, this will be cheaper than ebay fees anyway.

If you don't like eBay, Amazon must be the second option I think. Anyway, ubid.com and bidz.com are eBay alternatives but they don't have much traffic.

Each of them has their own little niche, and of course varying levels of traffic but they're all "known" to a greater or lesser extent. I'm not sure which niche you're in so you'll have to look into them yourself, sorry.

Amazon is straight as long as you dont get banned (for making too much money). For an ebay alternative, you could consider ioffer.

I used to go to auctions and purchase random lots and post them on eBay when I was in high school. Now I have a 100% positive feedback w/ several hundred items sold, so it's easy to sell things. If you don't have a high feedback it can be difficult to get good results on ebay.

The only thing next to ebay will be amazon obviously, like what the other folks have mentioned. The other will be multiply. I have been visiting multiply more frequently than before, and I am pleased with the great stuff I have been seeing there.

If I've got no options, I'll take multiply.

Yes, its a sad thing, Ebay was once the Go to place, for buying and selling, I have had an account there since 1999, I use it occasionally but not like I used to. These days, I often end up on Amazon, because of one simple fact, the shipping charges are not as high, I see many ebay sellers, charging insane shipping charges.

But that is not really the worst (allegedly) about Ebay

The absolute and Allegedly, worst thing about ebay is the day they Killed the Affiliate program, that was the day that has consistently led to losses in many aspects, Ebay is slowing withering on the vine, likely if not for Paypal, Ebay would be in a real world of hurt.

As a former Seller on Ebay I used to make $800 to $1200 per week, and I could easily drive traffic from website to the affiliate program that would generate even more revenue, but they changed the entire thing, they went to what they called a value click, or some such thing, what it was really was a way to dismantle the most successful aspect of Ebay, the driving force behind the auction sales format is users and plenty of them, but Ebay made two big huge mistakes.

They forgot where their high earners came from and they deduced they could generate more interest using commercials, (which allegedly no one saw)

Since that time, Ebay has degraded, (again allegedly) into a ball of yarn with bubble gum embedded in it, some day hopefully soon the guy they hired to revamp the affiliate model (the one that used to work) and turned it into a pile of steaming trash, will be fired, and perhaps they will once again return to something that might actually develop business.

Until that day arrives, I am not interested in Ebay, I can get anything I want from Amazon and its not only guaranteed, but it is usually covered under a warranty.

Why buy junk from ebay that is not only not insured, but has no warranty, then you also have to pay high dollars for shipping, why bother, that is what Ebay has forgotten.

Amazon's FBA program is awesome. They handle your customer service, returns, payment, and generate traffic. The fees are higher, but its worth the headaches.

You'll find your sweet spots for products. Lately, fitness related products (everything from diet pills to weights) have been selling off the shelves.

ebay is not ebay any more they lost most of their traffic and they killed themselves.

Hey there, I was a Big Ebay and Amazon Seller, I used to sell alot of accessories for phones and parts. But the fees just got out of hand. The best thing to do is, do AMAZON Fullfillment, once you build a good rep there with the buyers, you will be making more money compared to Ebay. I will focus more on Amazon, compared to Ebay, there are more buyers then on Ebay.

I still do sell on Ebay and Amazon, but it has not been like what it used to be.

I noticed people are going for online stores more, so try to build a webstore and promote it and you will make more money.

Other online sources where you can sell on are Buy.com, and Sears Marketplace(i heard is upcoming, Overstock, and Ubid.
