Contacts vs Friends?

Sorry for possibly a dumb question - but what's the difference between 'contacts' and 'friends' here?

    Sorry for possibly a dumb Answer.........

    Contacts = People you know and you can do only this to them.
    Friends = People you know well and you can do this :p also to them.

        That was a great answer and exactly what I was thinking. Contacts are just people you know a little but friends are exactly what it means - your friend.

          I do get that cashp0wer - and yeah i do appreciate the humorous answer I got - I mean to ask - if I have been chatting with someone a bit by PM or on posts.. I can't see how to add them (or ask them to be on my friends list) - only how to add them to my contacts.

          That;s why I said it was probably a dumb question - I just can;t see how to do that?

            Dave,

            Go into your User CP, then click on "Control Panel". Look for the heading "Networking". Under that heading you'll see "Contacts and Friends".

            If you click on that, you'll have the option in the box at the bottom to add either a contact or a friend.

            I think you need to add them as a friend from their profile page and then the script will ask you if you want to send them a request to be added to their list.
