Track sales based on traffic source/channels

Hi Warriors,

I have an online shop (running via WordPress). After a customer bought something, I want to find out how this customer came to the website (will be in 95% of the cases via Google I guess, but I will add banner ads soon as well).

Can I track this somehow?

Ideally I can say after a sale: "This customer wrote xy on Google, came to my page and bought item xy".

Hope you guys can help

Best
Jonas

Google analytics will do this for you.

The simplest solution for your Google traffic is Google Analytics... or I prefer Clicky. Just set up some goals and you're good to go. Your banner referrer info will also track, and you can add some click ids to your banner links so you can track a little better as to which creatives are converting.

Otherwise there's various tracking software out there and ad servers, depending on your setup and volume. I prefer to have custom software developed according to my needs for some cases. Can be costly, but can really help you determine your best traffic and help you trim the fat... making it a very valuable asset.

    Thanks for your help guys!

I just saw there is something like Google Ecommerce that adds additional features to Google Analytics. Seems that might be helpful as well? But it requires to install some java stuff?! (I got no idea about java)
