I shared a post of my website on Stumble Upon and within 24 hours it has had over 2000 views. I have also shared a few of my other posts but they have received very few views (less than 20).

How does Stumble Upon work? Why has one post received so many views yet others have virtually none?

Also has anyone had any good results with Stumble Upon views actually converting into sales?

Not sure how it works? I think people list to the types of sites they're interested in?

I used it once, when I had a site with very wide appeal. I got a ton of traffic and a very small percentage of it converted into sales. Over-all not too bad considering it cost nothing more than a few minutes to set-up, but certainly not life-changing, either.

True, this is how the game is going on with SU. For me, over 80% visitors do not stay more than 5-6 sec. Means, scan traffic.

My analytics page shows that visitors from Stumble Upon are staying for an average of 2 min.

This is my first attempt at IM and I created my first site a month ago. It had Zero visitors up until yesterday so this kinda gives me the motivation to keep trying.

Do you mind posting a screen shot?

It's just hard to believe because I have used SU for SEO purposes for a while and never had results like that. The only post I ever had in the 1,000's was a celebrity gossip blog entry I did just to test things out and see what works on there and what doesn't.

I have absolutely no reason to be lying. Not here promoting anything, I only ever post on WF when I'm trying to figure something out. I can tell you that topic is about how to improve your social skills.

Oh I know, didn't mean for it to seem like I was accusing you of that, would just like to see a screen shot so I know there could be no human error. That is some crazy stats, I know if I had them I'd be posting the screenshot all over the place rubbing it in peoples face. LOL.

If the stats are accurate then man, you got some gold. Now all you need is for the traffic to convert. That's crazy... you know how difficult it is to get over a 30 second average time on site with SU? Good job.

Fingers crossed that it will convert somehow. I didn't want to seem like I was bragging or anything, I'm very new to this IM thing and I just wanted to know how Stumble Upon worked.

Do articles get shared around by SU users? Is this why this one particular article is getting so many views yet my other ones are getting very few?

By the way up to 4500 views now and still going strong

Basically it's a self-improvement site which offers my own spin on a variety of different topics based on my personal experiences in life.

It's a bit of a mixed bag of different categories but the main objective is giving people helpful tips that they can use in their day to day life that will improve their happiness. (With a few affiliate links which are related to what I'm writing about thrown in along the way)

It works by people liking or voting up your share. The more shares and activity on your share the more people stumbleupon will show it too and more traffic you will get.

Stumble Upon traffic is super easy to get if you create some engaging content but the visitors do almost nothing on your site. They read it and quickly move on, at least in my experience.

The bounce rate is pretty ridiculous. People on Stumble Upon are bored and looking for entertainment not to purchase anything. Again, that has been my experience anyway.

If you have CPM ads the traffic helps in that way.

Wow- that is seriously impressive! Well done!

As others have mentioned, SU works by users sharing content that they like and want others to know about. Without seeing the content you submitted I can't be too specific, but chances are that whatever it was you shared somehow went viral and is being passed from user to user.

Have you been back to StumbleUpon to see how many times your content has been shared?

It has slowed down a little bit but as it stands now it's had 7500 views. Avg time on site is 1.45min and bounce rate is 13.19% and I have 258 new subscribers to my newsletter No affiliate sales though

Don't worry about not getting any sales- you've got a bunch of new subscribers!

As long as your autoresponder series/broadcasts are effective and deliver value, you should start to see the sales mount up

Congratulations, its rare that I hear success stories from SU like this.

I only get about 8 - 15 views with stumble upon, but I recently heard something that you can pay stumble upon for more views? Not sure if anyone can add to this

Hi, I would love to see Analytics page go from 0 vistors to 1500 overnight. My experience with stumbleupon was not a success story. I have reached once about 150 visits but analytics showed that the time of the visit was 0. I have never understood why...
I keep trying but it doesn't work very well for me. SO enjoy your success!

IMO StumbleUpon is a crapshoot. I've put that site in the same category as Pinterest, something I personally don't want to bother with at this time but possibly has potential.

Me too had got huge number of visitors from SU, but most of them are on the site just few seconds.... I don't think those visitors can be counted as "target visitors"

    Hi there,

I have to say Bookmarking can bring you short bursts of traffic, is it quality probably not. These users aren't buyers, one good thing about bookmarking is that they get indexed super fast and it's a link back to your site, so I would say bookmarking is good for SEO only really.

I had one post get 1000 views but people were only there a 30 to 60 seconds, yet on Twitter people stayed an avg of 4-5mins and have had sales from Twitter.

It depends on your topic. My topic isn't really relevant for a Stumbleupon user. It's more for people searching for this very specific topic. Therefore I didn't get much traffic at all from SU.

StumbleUpon traffic won't convert. These aren't visitors in "buy mode" who hit your page from a google search.

StumbleUpon by nature is set up to shuffle surfers quickly from site to site.

I've used Stumble Upon both for some post submissions and as a browser. The thing with stumbling is it's addictive. You can hit a button and voilla! you might land on an awesome site. For me, it's fun when you're bored and researching a topic perhaps, but getting the traffic to stay on your site is next to impossible. It's scanners browsing. Unless it's awesome material that's exactly what they're into, they probably won't stick around.

I think for the increase you saw, you might have tagged it with a really broad topic, making it visible to more people. Like profiles with people with interests in "social media" might have a lot of people with that. From there folk have arrived through the stumble button, hit the thumbs up and moved on. The stumbles vote it up and exposes it to more people as a good post worth checking. Boom. traffic increase.

I think that's how it works. It is an addictive site though. I used to spend hours on it.
