Transfering Website To Buyers

Hi, i am planning to flip my website later but i am confused about transferring it. I saw on Youtube that they only transfer WP-content, SQL database and one more files (forgot it's name). Another source that i found says that i need to download ALL the website file and later just upload it on a new hosting. Can someone help me clarify this? An explanation from an experienced people would be a big help.

Before we can help you and tell you how you can transfer your site to a buyer, it would help to know what kind of site it is. Is it just an html site? Is it a self-hosted wordpress blog? Joomla? Drupal?

If it's Wordpress based then get yourself a tool like WPTwin and you can then transfer the site in about 2 minutes

I always use someone from Fiverr to do the transfer when selling sites.
I don't have experience with all hosting companies and sometimes it can be tricky. For $5 I know I am guaranteed to have a perfect job done each and every time.

    Hope this helps

I think Backup Buddy is a great tool for transferring the site files and database(s) to a buyer not to mention using it for backing up your site. I have a coupon code on my Facebook page if you are interested.

Assuming that you are familiar with file zilla and FTP, So here is the complete steps to get it done.
    1. You are going to Backup the database from the old site and download it to a safe place and you are going to import it to the new site of the client. Make sure that you Pay attention to database names that you will modify later on.
    2. Unzip your WordPress installation from the old site to the new site by uploading it via ftp
    3. Next thing to do will be Changing wp-config.php on the new site with new database details information
    4. You also will Change the nameservers to point to the new site
    5. That's for now and wait for your site to propagate.
Also if you want to save your self great amount of time by not messing with FTP stuff ,you can Get the WP Backup Creator pluging by Robert Plank.. Just do a Google search for it.. I use it all the time and i 'm happy with it.

I was wondering about this too.

and what about the products and affiliate links you have throughout the entire site? do you remove them all before transferring? every link in the site, or how does this work?

Hi, i will change the affiliate link. You should too and if you have Adsense account, you should change it and leave the rest as it is. I haven't think to change it before or after the transfer yet. Would love to hear some opinions on this too.

Do you just completely eliminate the link, or as the buyer for their aff id and put it in for them?

is there an easy way to do this or do you literally have to go through every page/post and delete/enter the new link?

I will take their aff link to replace it as some buyers are "lazy" to do that but you should ask them first in case they want to do it. I have to go to every post to change it, i think that you don't need to change it on every post if you are using WPRobot, WPcBank or Blog Cash Cow (Both from WSO). It have an admin panel, just try to change it from there and check if it's change on every previous post. I haven't check it yet but if you have, let me know if it change all the aff links on your previous post. It will basically change all the aff to your buyer aff link on the next post after you change the settings on the admin panel of these three plugins. If you are new to flipping website, you can check out Adsense Flippers (I forgot the link to it but the owner of the website is on WF too)

Yes, you should definitely learn how to do the transfer rather than relying on somebody else.

That being said, assuming your hosting has cPanel and your buyer's hosting also has cPanel, most hosts (in this case it would be the buyer's host) will transfer the complete site (db, email, etc) to their servers for next to nothing. I've seen hosts do it for free, some say they charge $0.50 or $1.00 for each site transferred. If the host is willing, I'd let them do the transfer. On the outside chance something actually goes wrong during the transfer, they'd probably be in a better position to straighten it out, anyway.

      Peace
