Blog Cloning Problems

Have been having a host of problems cloning blogs using both Blog Zapper and WP Twin (the support for both has been non-existent thus far).

Basically I cloned a blog on BlueHost and imported it to a new domain, hosted with seohosting. Now when I go the domain (dontflygo.com) all I get is prompted to download some index file.

Firstly any ideas why it didn't clone and deploy properly?

Secondly how can I clear these domains so that these downloads don't keep being offered? I've cleared all the files, removed the packages and databases and still it happens.

At breaking point with this stuff!

If it has you download the page then sounds like a server issue rather than a wordpress issue. You need to verify php is installed and working for your host.

That's all good. As mentioned it's aseohosting and it's all worked fine previously.

If I delete everything of the host and reset the accounts and packages this still happens. It's happening on another test blog I made on the domain starttorun.com.

No idea how to solve it.

I've cloned a lot of domains with WPTwin and never had the problem you are describing, but what I would do is start over - remove everything from the target domain.

Then install wordpress fresh. Make sure that when you go to the url it works as expected.

Then try your wptwin deploy again and see if you get the same result.

If you do, go back to the original domain and redo the wptwindeply but at the same time also grab and export of the sql database as well as the contents of your wp-content folder.

Try the wptwin on a fresh wordpress blog again. If that doesn't work, scrap it and just install import the sql and ftp up your theme and plugins.

Great thanks for the advice! The issue now however is that I can't reset these original domains - despite removing all files - to normal. If you go to them they still prompt a download of an index file (this happens for both domains I've tried to deploy blogs on: starttorun.com and hotelsandmotels.org).

How can I start over so to speak on each of these?

Just delete wordpress via fantastico or go in through ftp and delete the files.

I've done exactly that via cPanel and delete. Seems like I'm still facing problems on these domains however! Very frustrating!

Well if you've deleted all the files and there are no files in your domain directory and its still prompting you to download something I would say you should contact your hosting company.

I take issue with your assertion that my support is non-existent. You put in a ticket on 4/6, I replied the same day, asking you for more information about your issue and I have not heard back from you with an answer.

I take tremendous pride in my record of support, and do not want others to get the idea the my customers don't receive excellent support. We added .tar support to BZ specifically so we would be compatible with aseohosting's servers. If there is a compatibility issue, I would like to know about it.

Please follow through with our existing support ticket, and I will be glad to help.

Carl, I haven't seen a reply to the ticket but will go and check now. Apologies if you thought I was knocking the support - just the end of a very frustrating day!

I just started having a similar problem today. I've used WP Twin several times on different sites with no issues. Today I used it, and when I deployed the clone, the site will not open; instead it downloads the index.php file.

I've tried deleting and reinstalling WordPress. I noticed when I tried to reinstall WordPress in a directory named the same as the one I deleted, I still have the problem. When I created another directory, I could install WordPress (default) and it would work, but when I deployed the WP Twin clone, the problem recurred.

Anyone come up with a solution yet?

This would be an issue for that vendor's support.

There will be a line on top of htaccess file....HTTP PHP 5 something, I dont remember what exactly it is..

Delete that line and re-upload the htaccess file, your site will open.
