7 Chargebacks In The Last Month...All From 1 Affiliate

WTH? I did about 800 sales in the last month, and had a crazy uptick in chargebacks. I thought maybe there was something wrong with my backend, like maybe some links weren't working or something. But I haven't had any increases in complaints. I was genuinely perplexed.

So it occurred to me to pull up all of the chargebacks, and EACH AND EVERY ONE are from sales through the SAME AFFILIATE. I have no idea what is going on. I do notice that most of his/her sales seem to be through email, but I obviously can't see how he's promoting my site. Could it be possible that these are all stolen cards? This is weird.

Have you contacted this affiliate? That should be your first step- make them aware of the situation, ask them how they're promoting your product, and see what else they have to say about it.

That's the thing. Most of the sales are from email as they have Yahoo mail links as the referrer. The other sales are through Adnetworks like Bidvertiser. So I can't track him/her down to a site for contact information.

You would want to reach out to the affiliate and see how they're promoting your product and if it isn't the way you like then let him go. You can't let that continue to happen.

Unfortunately, I don't have any way to contact them. On another note, they don't have an abnormal refund rate, which is weird.

Maybe he bought them himself through his aff. Link and now asking for a full refund?

I was thinking maybe he/she was charging these sales to stolen cards...and maybe using proxies...I don't want to assume though.

i owuld 100% look in to that affiliates previous record. It happens with cpa mostly...some offer pays 30 or 40 bucks for trail. So some people get the fruad leads and cancel before the rebill session.

I forgot to mention, I'm a Clickbank vendor...just a one-time price, no rebilling. And there's no way I can research an affiliate's previous history with other vendors.

If I would be at your place I would have done following things,

    - First I would have contacted affiliate and tell him only his customers asked for refund, then I would ask who was his audience and method of promotion.
    - If his method of promotion wasn't problem then I would have thought about his audience.

I would not take any decision quickly before taking a close look on matter because as an affiliate I can never guarantee my audience will ask for refund or not, I promote digital products less because most of the times people just ask for refunds and refunds are just too easy (audience who already know that surely asks for refund and get product for free), same never happens with physical products.

Before taking tough decision of blocking affiliate take some time to understand his method of promotion if it is illegal or wrong then surely block him/her. If not then his audience may be problem who might know refunds are easy for digital products.

In this case you must let it go because promoting a product also costs affiliate in one way or another, just give him/her some advise how he/she can improve his conversion rates because refunds also affects his/her pay checks, I hope he/she will love you providing special help to boost his/her conversion rates.

These are CHARGEBACKS though, not refunds. If he was just overhyping it or promoting it as something that it wasn't, you would think that the customers he sent would contact me and/or Clickbank for a refund. But that isn't the case.

If it's Clickbank, after you get a refund you aren't allowed to buy again with the same information, so I doubt it's that.

Not completely true...plus these are all different cards/zips/names/etc, so that's irrelevant.
