direct website marketing

I own a ecommerce site and am new to seo and marketing online. I want to put artcles on my site and market them to bring people dorecly to my site instead of making web 2.0 sites and link wheels. will this hurt my site and what would be the best way to market articles on a ecommerce site.

    How would you drive people directly to you site. Through Facebook or Twitter or just make calls to them and tell to come to your site?

    You can't use facebook or twitter cause they are web 2.0, So remains calling people and telling them to visit your site. Will you do that?

      sorry should have been more clear about the web 2.0 thing. I mean i don't want to make a bunch of hubpages and blogs on 18 different blog sites and have 120 different sites to maintain and bookmark and all that. I was thinking something like marketing the articles on my one money site thu 5 or 10 top social bookmarking and article directories and anything else i can find that will limit all the work. If this doesnt sound like a good idea let me know what you think im new .

    There are various High Page Rank authority websites that have some kind of community portal in them: Forums, networks, discussions, groups etc.
    And every community portal has special dedicated profile pages of each of its members.
    And a member can add link(s) to their websites on their profile pages.
    And you can do exactly like that.
    The key point is that the homepage of the website has a very high PR(page rank). So every page linked to that domain name carries some weight of its own. When you have your site link on your profile
    page, then that becomes a valuable backlink in Google's eyes.
