Realistic 6 month goals?

There a lot of new people on this forum, myself included. And we all get dazzled by the people replacing their salaries and quitting their 9-5s. And while most of us want to be able to work for ourselves and even live by the mantra of "make the internet a better place" honestly, some of us are just sick of our jobs and want to make more money.

So, without being too general, what are some realistic goals we can set for ourselves in a 6 month window? Let's say you were going from scratch and you put in say 10-20 hours a week, what are some reasonable things you might expect to achieve?

I feel that (especially since I am around the 6 month mark!) if you stick to a particular business model, and dont get distracted(like I did), a very realistic goal, whilst putting in steady amount of work hours per day(more than 1), should be around $100 a day.

I mean - you can comfortably target that much! Not saying that every person WILL achieve that much, but surely everyone CAN ! And beyond that off course - sky's the limit

I would say you really need to put more time in per week.

Starting off from scratch you're going to have to spend a lot of time learning AND taking action.

What is realistic is different for each person. What it ultimately comes down to is your drive and what kind of action you take.

This is realistic. I like this goal.

This is also true. You will struggle a lot doing marketing with little cash and only a little time.

First of all, All the very best for your online future. As a person who has been online for 3 years now, I would suggest to focus on one matter at a time instead of running one program to another. Always treat your business as a real business as offline business so that you will become an entreprenuer rather than an opportunity seeker.

A realistic 6-month goal is one that you can get behind 100%, one that is consistent with your current belief system.

Sounds pretty esoteric, but what I mean is this: there are a lot of people who have developed $10K +/mo businesses in 6 months. There are many, many more who haven't. I believe the telling factor is their level of belief that it is possible, and since it is possible, it can be done. That's the mindset that drives the achievement - they know it can be done, they know they can do it, and they stop at nothing to accomplish it. In short, if you think you can, you can.

A question like this is dangerous - you stand the very real chance of limiting yourself by paying attention to the answers that people give, people who may have limited beliefs and try to pass those along to you.

I think that it depends largely on your business model- and there's a big difference between 10 hours per week and 20 hours.

Are you creating small products? You can probably create at least 12 in 6 months.

Going for big products? Maybe 2-3.

Creating small sniper sites? At least 20-30 sites.

Going for large authority sites? 1 or 2 maybe

If you want to just shoot for an income goal, it might incorporate all of these things.

It depends on how good you are at picking up the basics and developing skills. Also how focused you are. Many newcomers get disillusioned very easily and if they don't see immediate success give up and try something new.

I also think you would need to be able to put in more time than 10 hours per week to be able to hit the mark inside 6 months unless you have someone to help steer you in the right direction and avoid wasting time of lots of rubbish. Even then 6 months is very ambitious with that amount of input.

Saying that if you do everything right from an early stage then there is no reason why it's not possible. The most important factor in the equation is you, your belief in yourself and your drive to succeed without taking shortcuts on things that look too good to be true (because they often are).

I really do hope you meet your goals.

I'm really enjoying your comments and tips. Some have asked for a stated goal:

    -In 6 months, I'd like to be earning $1,500 a month. That's roughly $50 a day.

-I want that income to be totally or near totally passive. Meaning, adsense, amazon, clickbank, cj, and any other method of monetizing a site where I don't have to work.

-I want it to be a "set it and forget it" kind of thing. I still intend to keep my 9-5, but getting a nice little bonus each month for $1,500 would go a long way to improving my quality of life.

-I'm willing to put in a lot of time and work getting it set up and going, but I'll be honest, I'm a lazy person. I can work really hard to get to a goal, but once that goal is achieved, I want to kick back and enjoy my life. I don't want to be a slave to my site(s)

So, can anyone comment on what path or strategy might best achieve that goal?

Very few online business's can be completely "set and forget" more often they can be built, ranked and "maintained" which means you need to put a little bit of work in to keep them up and running but nowhere close to what you put in to set them up.

You can of course always outsource most of these jobs as well once you have the steady income. You cannot guarantee though that what works and earns in 2012 will still earn for you in 2013 so you have to be willing to step back into the fray and makes some new additions to your portfolio if needs be.

Always best to be creating new projects as well and not keep all your eggs in one basket.

I'd love to be earning around $100 per day. Unfortunately after 8 months I am still only earning around $1 per day and I'm spending at least 30 hours per week. I'm working on Adsense sites.

10 to 20 hours per week may not be enough to get you very far. I remember when I first started out I was working 8 to 10 hours per day and then putting more time in on the weekends just learning this business. I still put in this much time now working the business. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

What is realistic depends on what limits you're going to put on yourself.

It's like losing weight. Is the person unwilling to be uncomfortable for even 30 seconds a day? Do they only want to do exercise that's fun? Then they won't lose as much weight as someone that's really willing to suck it up, eat 800 calories a day and exercise for an hour.

If you're willing to do anything within ethical boundaries, you can make $100,000 in 6 months. If you're only willing to do the things that you're 100% comfortable with at the moment, it's likely going to be much less.

I'm going off on a rant here, so hang with me. Sticking with the diet theme..... there are so many diets, exercise programs, support groups, etc., because people can't get themselves to take the direct path. So all these other things are created to work around this fact and provide less resistance. At the end of the day, we all need to quit looking for an easier way and simply work on ourselves. When you can take the direct path, money comes quickly. We don't need a new diet, we just need to be compliant with a decent one.

Maybe that has nothing to do with your post; I guess I'm in a mood. lol

Good luck though. I guess my answer is that you can make how ever much you want, but the number has to be believable to you.

Take care and go get 'em,

        Keith

I don't think putting 10-20 hrs. of work can get you too far since you are just starting as you say. It would most likely be more realistic to put 40 or more hours per week on the first few weeks since you will need a lot of time learning.

Making $50/day by next month is my immediate goal. Presently selling on fiverr. But I need ideas that will drive more traffic to my page.
