Google Plus Is Booming, Don't Miss Out

A lot of marketers still think Google plus isn't important.

1 year from now Google plus will be so big, you'll kick yourself if you didn't join early.

Google just published new numbers, and presented their new g+ interface.

More than 170 million people have upgraded to Google+, enjoying new ways to share in Search, Gmail, YouTube and lots of other places. It's still early days, and there’s plenty left to do, but we're more excited than ever to build a seamless social experience, all across Google.
Source: Official Google Blog: Toward a simpler, more beautiful Google

Take a look how well g+ integrates now with sites millions of people are visiting already.

Google+: There's more to explore - YouTube

(sorry, no idea why the video isn't embedded)

They'll start using g+ without ever thinking about it, or without ever noticing it as a separate social network.

do you know how many people ACTUALLY (as in stayed on and used it) used facebook the first 3 years?

I had one and I never used it until my friends used it....G+ will be the same

And the way that google set it up. They set it up for IMers to get the ball rolling a lot faster.

As in using the fact that google search will be effected by G+ and circles and knowing that Imers will love that. They bank on US to get OUR VISITERS on G+ to speed it up..

Doing this will get more friends to connect and achieve the facebook user experience (connecting with friends) at a much faster rate...

If Imers do our jobs than G+ could achieve a facebook user experience within a year from now./...Something that took facebook YEARS to achieve

What was the alternative back then?? Myspace LMFAO.

G+ is a Facebook Clone, why would regular people go through the hassle of changing when Facebook does what they want it to and everyone is on there and its ingrained in their everyday lives.

Sure, there are small things on G+ that Facebook should look very closely at but Facebook is forever changing, sometimes good and sometimes bad, no reason to jump to G+ just so Google can catch up ground on FB

True. The future destiny of Facebook also isn't decided by g+ or any other upcoming site. It's decided by Facebook.

Maybe I should think again, but I believe it is simply an attempt by Google to figure out who I really follow and why, so they can use it against me later. :p

Here's my problem with Google +.

I signed up a few weeks ago and found that pretty much none of my friends and contacts who use Facebook are on there. Maybe less than 30 of 1000 had profiles on it.
The issue is that if this is the case for other people, signups are going to be severely hampered. With social networking sites, people tend to go where there friends are and for the moment at least, the social networking side of things is done on FB.

The sharing side is great, but I don't know if it justifies its own social network. To be honest intergration with FB or Twitter would seem like the easiest route to go down, but then what do I know?!

My biggest problem is that when they launched it, some people were stepping in mud with them.

Rather than simply killing the Google + account, they killed all accounts attached to that email address.

People, especially those using Gmail, were put in a world of hurt, because the Google + crew had itchy fingers -- and they were not always justified in their reactions...

Google already has their fingers in too many private areas of the net... They certainly don't need access to information about who my real friends are too...

People will use it for a while because its being forced down our throats!!

People aren't choosing to use the service like they have chose to use Facebook, they have no choice if they want to use the other services.

The numbers are complete BS, its all tied into Google's other services to make the pathetic social attempt seem as though its popular.

The only people I see shouting about G+ are those trying to make money/market on it AND NOT real, everyday people.

Lets see how long Google can get away with force feeding this to people

Exactly. Unlike Facebook, Twitter, and I guess to an extent YouTube, Google+ is not growing organically. Instead Google are, as you say, forcing it on people and I just can't see it being a viable strategy going forward.

I've heard this before and tried to spend some time in there like I do in other social network but there is zero, nada, none, no interaction going on.

As far as Google connecting everything, I don't like it at all.

They are probably shooting themselves in the foot thinking they are too big and in too much control to falter but that is never the truth as history has shown us so many times in the past.

There are other ways to get traffic than Google, there are other ways to do anything than what Google has to offer so my advice to everyone is don't tie your whole life to Google and be forced to do whatever they want you to.

Going over to Google Plus right now is like hanging out at a Ghost town.

Who wants to do that when there is a party every day on facebook and twitter....and now Pinterest!

I am a bit skeptical about this social network. I have almost no friends who actually use it and Facebook has the corner on it. I think it is great for some linking and may drive some traffic, but to focus a lot of attention on it would not be super beneficial. In addition, I already have one social network trying to be my "online fingerprint", I don't think I want another

There is one aspect I do like, categorizing groups of people. I think that this is much more effective for some of our uses. We can have people plugged into certain niches and seperate out family and friends that we don't want to get IM pushes. So I think this is a very useful aspect of this network.

They are hoping we do this.

They rightly believe that if people would start using that feature, then they can cut through the SEO-manipulation really quickly and easily, since only the user and they can see who is in a person's group.

They believe that if this feature is used, they can discover who the quality people are, and organize their search results based more on social feedback than SEO fun and games.

Too bad that they scared away the early adopters in droves...

That means they have clicked on the You+ button to auto join, not that they are actively using the product.

From what I have seen so far, Google+ is just frequented mainly by geeks and hipsters and marketers.

The rest of the world are still on facebook where they have all their family and freinds already added and they are comfortable with the interface, so why would they change anything?

That's true. The thing is: from that moment on they will be surrounded by g+ wherever they go, as well as their friends who auto joined.

One thing that surprised me is how many people seem to use the internet while logged in to Google. I never did this before I joined g+.

But when I look at my web Analytics, a growing number of searches are now from logged in users - which means their search results are likely to be influenced by g+ content, too. Wouldn't expect too many to turn that off.

It's pretty obvious they are targeting silver surfers (they are the largest demographic of web users in the UK).

It looks to me like G+ are going after a different market than FB, which is kinda smart (if that's what they are doing) because this demographic also has the most money to spend.

I have used G+ socially and not made any attempt to use it for marketing purposes. I am really beginning to get turned off by facebook despite having a pretty extensive network now as it has really just grown clunky and processor heavy. Their app crashes my phone frequently and remains the only app that crashes my phone at all. They have quickly added a long host of features that are not wanted, are kind of a pain in the butt, and are enabled by default without informing me in any appreciable way that they have been implemented. For example when FB groups were rolled out they do not give you the option to NOT be added to groups automatically and spam my inbox with emails every time anyone posts anything. I logged in after being offline for two days and had over 12,000 emails from FB for updates to groups I had been added to, had no interest in being added to, and had no interest in being notified of. The fact that I still cannot disable automatically being added to groups by others is a huge turnoff. I really don't want to invest a ton of time deleting spam from my inbox and repeatedly leaving groups that I have no interest in.

Another example is the new policy they have where I can be penalized for adding people who I do not explicitly know in real life. I have been getting warnings for adding people I met through other online channels and actually had my ability to friend people briefly suspended because FB asked a number of people who actually wanted to connect with me whether they knew me in real life or not, but despite the fact that they did in fact accept my friend request I was still penalized for not knowing them personally. Things like this that detract from the user experience for no purpose other than allowing FB to pry further into our privacy and bulldoze it's way into more of our free time will eventually drive others away, and they will turn to the most viable other network, which is at least at this point probably G+.

This is really the same sort of thing that happened to Myspace. I agree that G+ lacks the social population that FB does currently, but their features are far better implemented, hog much less of my machine's resources, and are far less invasive in any consciously visible way. Should FB continue this policy I expect that they will be putting nails in their own coffin. I also agree that monopolies are not in any way desirable, however for the general public at large they are going to do what is popular and what is the easiest to work with.

You are talking about a company (Google) that publicly announced that users have no privacy when on G property and they will sell every last ounce of information they have about users. If you want to promote them, please don't use the privacy excuse. You have to come up with a different angle.

2 years or 20, at least they have created a buzz in the mainstream, something Google hasn't done yet. And this is not Google's first attempt at social media. They (Pinterest) may not have the fire power of Google, but they have the right idea.
